This shows how out of touch I've been with PC building, I only recently learned that a lot of case windows nowadays are actually glass. I was assuming it was all still acrylic.

Binary Badger posted:When he bitched about spending $500 to retest a product, I just thought that was the height of absurdity after how he showed off his spanking brand new groverhaus that he was able to buy using YTbux that his testing videos brought in.. part of it is him having terminal small-business owner brain where he sees every dollar spent by the company as his money being spent, so anything he likes will get buckets of money, and anything he doesn't like or doesn't see the potential for immediate ROI he will kick and whine about and part of it is that he explicitly stated he hated the water block and that he didn't want anyone to buy it. like, that's not an inference, he literally and specifically said that it didn't matter what data they would have got out of properly testing it because no matter what the results were he would still be convinced it's terrible and nobody should buy it. i mean, i'm not a biz guy, maybe i don't have the right perspective or mentality, but i can't help but wonder if that'd be the biggest red flag for a hardware vendor considering sending products for early review. if Linus is willing to admit on camera he went into a review hating a product and deciding that nobody should buy it, and proceeded to gently caress up the review, who's to say he won't do it again? or perhaps has even done it before? TheFluff posted:RCR in the old days had absolutely nothing to do with car facts, it was just very funny automotive shitposting. Go back and look at the oldest videos on the channel; many of them are extremely funny but for a long time in the early years he really didn't talk much about the cars themselves. In the very first video on the channel he overdubs technical stuff about the engine with "blah blah blah". Then they ran out of jokes and had to pivot to being an actual car reviewer and it sucks now. I don't think they like what they do anymore but it's not like they can quit. A lot of YouTube channels are like TV shows that should have been cancelled 8 seasons ago but they keep running the gimmick into the ground because the content mill is their whole livelihood now. Yeah the early videos were great, I loved the Cammaster, but I felt like he crawled up his own rear end and lost me at some point. I remember he had that Falcon project car and he carried on and on about how it was going to be the ultimate "regular car" but then decided he just had to put in a gigantic floor shifter, and he tried justifying it by saying "well it's a safety improvement" and like dude just admit you love and want the bigass floor shifter lever, don't try to pretend you had to.

Hardcastlemccormik posted:This tells me just how toxic the workplace probably is. The biggest red flag for a workplace I’ve found is that they demand extremely senior skill sets but then right in the job description blatantly list that they underpay the position by a huge amount. I'm reminded of that ad that Rogue put out like ten years ago where they specifically mentioned wanting "hardcore unemployables" and the rest of the ad made it very clear that they wanted to exploit the hell out of whoever was desperate enough to apply for the job.

More CPU can actually be a quality of life improvement anyway. January 2021 I upgraded from an i5 Haswell to a 5800X and was shocked how much faster some webpages loaded, because of the gigantic amounts of bullshit that so many webpages do behind the scenes. It annoys me because I sure don't feel like I'm getting commensurate increase in web functionality to account for that discrepancy, but of course it's not about me, it's about the loving advertisers
