idk. i personally have a strong skin from various poo poo so i just roll my eyes at stuff. like sure i am happy with who i am and physical disabilities has its "perks" at points but i like playing games about people that arnt me. i can find other things i identify with other than disibility with characters.

i have my issues with the disability advocacy community in general because alot of them care more about poo poo like this article and triggers and using autism as an excuse for everything and dumb twitter poo poo rather than healthcare or making ramp access either or Job availability but thats for another thread.

The whole humanity thing is just an awful mechanic anyway. Just a lazy way to try to limit the amount of modification you can put into yourself. What constitutes humanity loss? If my arm got sheered off in an industrial accident do I lose part of my humanity for getting a cyber arm to replace it? If not then why do I lose it when I choose to? Is the act of choosing the factor? Free choice and will is, besides empathy, the most human thing we have. What if I strengthened the current muscle tissue with cyber stuff?

It's just a bad avenue to begin with because it opens up these kinds of questions and if you can't answer them then that's a problem. You can get hacked and crap, so you can offset the benefits of having machine parts by being susceptible to things that disrupt machines. Be creative with your balancing.

i think its less limbs and stuff and more like again replacing your brain and eyes with targeting poo poo or basically putting brain in a robot body. they arnt using it as a leveling system. they thought about when it was first announced but they didnt.

based on the last night city wire video, i'd say they're not. it's not clear where you can't go, but they were driving on sidewalks, up concrete steps, over pedestrians/other cars, and offroad

Considering that the lore states that gravity is 10.2m/s2 instead instead of 9.8m/s2 by way of slow accumulation of speed over years into the future, but the cars are made out of the same metals as they are now, I’d say yes. The cars will be heavier and thus won’t be able to leave the road.

This is purely conjecture from a design standpoint. We might similar to the dudes we saw in the combat taxi but if they have a bunch of dudes running around that look like Adam Smasher it makes the design less intimidating.

It would be ridiculously expensive to build and maintain a full-body prosthesis like Adam Smasher or Lizzy Wizzy, that seems like a thing for only the very wealthy or connected. Like the Maelstrom all probably want to go full borg but they don't have the means to do so.

If you like The Electric Church there's a whole series. I tapped out after the third or fourth book, but they were enjoyable. Think it was one of those "found them at the right time" situations.

Can't stress enough how good Hardwired is for scratching the CP2020/77 itch. Yes, Pondsmith basically made Hardwired The RPG, sure, but it's such good cyberpunk.

Been rereading Virtual Light, kind of maligned Gibson but feels like it could almost be read in the same kind of ironic tone some people were suggesting for Snow Crash. Reading now after loving it as a 13 year old it comes off almost like Gibson doing a piss take of a 90s cyberpunk culture and how Hollywood presented the genre.

I assume you're referring to that scene from 2018 showcase (there might be another one; I haven't been really been following the various trailers and such, aside from looking up the 2018 video, along with some other miscellaneous ones).

I was actually expecting that to be a lot more graphic, because there's a moment where the view shifts, as the cyber-eye is being connected, and what I thought was going to happen was that the ripper-doc was going to pivot it around to check it, and you'd see the connectors cords running out of V's eye-socket.

I'm wondering if there's going to be an achievement for beating the game with no or minimal augmentations.

I've just started All Tomorrow's Parties, but up to this point I'd say that the Bridge Trilogy is less cyber and more punk, in the sense that the protagonists are regular people who get caught up in strange bullshit that's being imposed on them, and are then forced to grow and assert themselves to survive.

The tone is very different from the Sprawl trilogy because in Bridge the characters are generally fuckups (no spoiler there, they're each introduced by way of loving up) but I don't think that's Gibson being ironic so much as channeling the absurdity and fragility of modern life. These books are funnier, but also more mature. They have a bit of a Brazil vibe, really.

Neuromancer remains the best thing I've read from Gibson (no surprise) but The Peripheral was great and Idoru was a lot of fun as well.

Not really in that way I think. There are AI that have become self aware hiding in the old web though. In the recent interview with Mike Pondsmith that was linked here it seems like something that Cyberpunk Red focuses a bit more on.

I think the concept of having reached self aware AI years ago, but people being scared and they are all behind a huge firewall in a delimited, no trespass area, is pretty original. I can imagine some quest hinting that there is some AIs already hidden in this side, because the firewall isn't as good as people think.
