Yearly cost of living raise
Guaranteed raises that she can't bargain for
The fact that since she works for the state anyone can see how much her position makes

While the workers may know what's best, independent observers will help to keep any particular group of workers in a goven field from obtaining too much influence. I only mentioned sex work in particular because it related to the subject at hand and because the workers there are especially vulnerable as the simple act of doing their "jobs" can leave them feeling abused and worse.

Sex work is very, very difficult to understand. Some enjoy it, others only do it to make ends meet, some were literally forced into it and know nothing else. It's a hard subject and rife with potential tragedy -- I have known people who worked in it who came away traumatized. A good friend of mine can't even enjoy sex anymore because of it.

One of my coworkers is at least super honest in his opinions that everything, including life, is a privilege you earn. Just yesterday I was talking with some other coworkers about how Florida's mail-in ballot system used to silently drop your ballot if you made any sort of mistake and it couldn't be scanned, without telling you or giving you a chance to correct it. He jumped in out of nowhere with "if you can't follow simple instructions you don't deserve to vote!!" So I'm like "yeah but it's a machine, it's not perfect, what if it rejects it through no fault of your own, because you used the wrong pen or something?" and he goes into this story with a mocking tone that I think he meant to sound absurd about how well what if the machine reads ballots better if you use an expensive pen vs. a cheap pen and gosh this could discriminate against poor people and I'm just like "yes, yes it could, good point, that's why this is a problem."
