It’s been mentioned but I want a way to capture and keep animals. They’re easy to feed and we can build bases; why can’t we also build pens to keep our penis deer and dogcows in? I also want fishing. I want fishing in every drat game I play but especially this one.

While we’re talking about barren planets, how about black space for once? All the multicolor space clouds lose their wow factor when there is never a black backdrop to compare them against.

Honestly with Next I think we’re getting a game that is way more than what was ever promised at launch. I’m pretty stoked!

So I played a couple of hours last night. The planet generation is amazing now and landing on new worlds is exciting again. And while, yes, the crafting is more tedious, I find I'm enjoying it more. I've never understood the complaints about the interface personally, even the "holding down the button to confirm" thing. None of that bothers me at all. It looks cute and it works. I like having to use a refinery to refine materials and I like how digging for precious metals is now like actual prospecting, between using your scanner and terrain digging tool. So far I love this update. We'll see how it goes from here.

That's a gorgeous planet and I love that you can see this tall "Red Mountain-ish" mountain in the background. Good topography can take this game a long way and I hope it keeps getting better. I want to be able to get lost in huge ravines and underground caves and tall mountains and what not.

is everyone whose complaining about controls using M/K? Because I'm using an old xbox 360 controller on my PC and controls seem just fine to me. Like the Arkham or Souls games I'd recommend a gamepad for this. Even if K/B was really good and intuitive I think the controller still feels better. Plus vibration when you shoot rocks is neat to me.

Here's a cool idea: landing on a planet and you have the option to create a base object thing that maps an EXE from your hard drive. Then you can land on a planet and launch other games and pretend that planet is the cool game you selected. THIS planet is Diablo 2 world and THIS planet is Persona 3 FES via emulation and THIS planet is Netflix. And so on.

Yea, better space combat, BLACK space for once, and actual planetary body rotation/orbits would be cool too. I'd gladly take all those before asking for VR. But also want VR.

Has anyone ever bothered to really explore a planet you land on? Like walk/ride out for miles from a base or landing zone? I typically land on a planet and go "ok, so this is the planet, I've seen it," scoop materials and then move on hoping for that pristine tropical world with purple sunsets on my next trip. This game simultaneously has amazing planet variety, and no variety at all. It's weird. I like it, but it's weird.

NMS occupies this weird space for me where as it is now all patched up, it’s a dream game. But only on paper. Actually playing it the novelty wears off fast. I find I’m more inclined to play it if I’m in the mood for something Minecraf-y. But if I want space and exploration, I just dig into Elite.

I don't think there is a "one size fits all answer" here. If a person got sick from an early model headset, it's still worth trying a later model, if you're interested. If you're not interested, its a moot point. VR is awesome and I think NMS in VR would be a perfect fit. If you're struggling with motion sickness, then you need to weigh your interests with that. If you really want to play in VR, then you might need to start testing your endurance and incrementally increasing it. But that ain't gonna work for everyone. Some folks will get sick no matter what. Besides, if a person is really interested in trying VR, they'll Google on their own methods to avoid sickness. And if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Resource farming to create things outside of Creative mode is the least fun.

Overall I agree, but I never use cheats or creative mode because some part of my brain is broke, and it feels like I didn't "earn" what I have. It's dumb, I know. But in some games I like the reward that comes with menial toil and the thought that if I have a big base one day, it's because I mined every single chunk of rock used to build it. As a consequence, I just never play the game for more than 15 min at a time after each major patch.

Oh my god are you me? That's absolutely my experience as well, although I've been able to get a few more minutes out of it. When I play, I usually spend the first chunk of time just harvesting things and getting enough resources so I won't have to stop in the middle of exploring/flying around/fighting to shoot more di-hydrogen because my stupid ship is out of stupid launch fuel.

Same. I do this in a lot of games and end up burning out. I try to go against my brokebrain and just..."enjoy" a game sometimes. But then I feel guilty and turn it off.

Yea, doing the "toil" part of a resource gathering game is best when that part of the game is engaging. Minecraft does it very well because there's always something new to see and experience. Stardew Valley is another game where I enjoy the moment to moment gameplay. With NMS, I find I'm doing menial things just so that I can do "fun" things later.

Yea, I have yet to settle on a planet. And if/when I do, a major update comes out that turns it into a barren hellscape so I have to relocate. I like the idea of nesting in a system and just sticking around a general area and making it my own.

I use NVidia and Vulkan works better in Doom at least; haven't tried it in NMS. Afaik, Vulkan also helps game performance when your system has a good video card, but a not so new CPU. It puts more strain on the gfx card so those folks get better performance. So if you're CPU and vid card are solid, it's probably diminishing returns. I could be way off base on that one though.

Also, when building I notice there is no option to move something. I am assuming I am refunded in some way when I scrap something I've built so I can move stuff. Working my way through the base tutorial and was annoyed that the storage containers didn't seem to snap to the floors/walls I had made.

I use controller on PC. This is a “lean back and relax” Kinda game so mouse and keyboard don’t feel right.

It kills me that a game with NMS's ambition and procedural generation hasn't been married to Elite's flight model and actual planet generation. A NMS planet with valleys/mountains and actual orbit patterns like Elite would just be the bumble bee's knees.
