I name this haircut "The Sad Rhino".
This is sort of a double post from the electronics thread, but thought people might not mind

I've been learning electronics in earnest for the past year or so and started a cheat sheet with a bunch of youtube channels.
I hate google, but you really can't beat youtube for this kind of stuff. I like it so much I actually subscribed to premium recently.
With the family plan it's not such a bad deal.

Anyway, here's a list I made, might be helpful if you're looking for something new.
If I'm missing some great educational ones, let me know.

also, If anyone you see on the list is a complete rear end in a top hat, let me know so I can unsubscribe and take them off the list

Electronics

CuriousMarc literally got me back into studying electronics
https://www.youtube.com/c/CuriousMarc

Electroboom is so entertaining... and if you keep up with what he says, I'm pretty sure he knows his stuff and/or you'll learn a lot. I know I did.
https://www.youtube.com/c/Electroboom

this one is neat, he's looking for Parasitaxus usta, which is a parasitic conifer. new caledonia has some cool stuff but that's definitely one of the strangest. he finds it at about 14:30 in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xU-lmKUkUc

then there's this one, where he looks at some plants around the blighted industrial areas in oakland, and then goes by the homeless camp where he talks about how the cops are harassing the homeless folks who can't afford rent because of all the gentrification.

I cannot listen to the EEVBlog guy. His voice is super irritating and his videos are 3x longer than they need to be because he can't stop waffling. Some of the teardowns are interesting if they're old gear, but often it's modern five-figure test equipment so the video is just him pointing at black rectangular ASICs for 30 minutes.

He's also kind of racist, and is REALLY into bitcoins despite claiming to be an environmentalist. He gives me the vibe of that annoying kind of nerd who thinks being really knowledgeable about one subject automatically makes him an expert in every less complicated (as judged by him) subject.

To elaborate a bit... I don't think he's gone full chud. Most of what I've seen has been the kind of standard anti-Chinese stuff that's common in Australia, coupled with the usual techie view that everything Chinese must be poor quality fake poo poo (he constantly refers to Chinese products as "Wun Hung Lo" branded like it's hilarious, even though he's been making that exact same poo poo joke since his channel started). I recall him saying some things that raised my eyebrows in his podcast too, but I stopped listening to it years ago and don't remember the details. He's definitely made some really ignorant comments about things like brexit, and doubles down when anyone pushes back, but I'd put that down to the other problem I mentioned where he believes he's an expert on everything. Tbh he's probably more your standard libertarian-leaning techie know-it-all who has an opinion on everything and has said dumb things about subjects he doesn't understand.

the youtuber -> chud pipeline is a pervasive problem though. automotive insanity has a thread dedicated to just reporting on which car channels are nazi-adjacent so people can avoid them. at this point it may be easier to make a list of tech channels that aren't nazis, tbh.

It's okay to watch youtubes you like, not everything has to be subjected to an ideological purity test imo. I think most youtubers are smart enough to leave their political views out of their videos.

but when it comes to channels like EEVBlog, AvE, and (ugh) Zip Ties & Bias Plies (in order of chuddiness) when they start actively propagandizing their politics it stops being a fun youtube video about technology or antics and it starts getting actively disgusting then yeah, I'm out.

A couple other channels come to mind like South Main Auto (Eric O.) and Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics (Ivan). Their content is excellent and you can learn a lot about car diagnostics. Both of them, and Eric O especially, seem like good honest dudes that wouldn't do anyone wrong. But they're both conservative. Are they on the "nazi" list? Idk I haven't checked. But they generally keep their politics out of their videos so I keep watching.

I don't think anyone's arguing that it's not okay to watch youtubers you like, but people are always going to be questioning you and your motives if you watch chud-lites or chuds.

Questioning viewing habits isn't a bad thing either, there's no reason that the background input we subject our noggins to shouldn't be subject to criticism.

At some point after leaving Motion he bought an RV and a car and an expansion of his home shop, then a new barn, and.... it was just about him and getting new shop equipment for work he didn't actually do anymore.

For the sellout, he was doing "product tests" and other poo poo, like all the sudden all his chemical poo poo was from CRC and whatever.

I don't want to hate on him for all this - he continues to increase in subscriber numbers so obviously a bunch of people like it, but it's not for me anymore.
