An acquaintance is doing a 4-day train trip across the US, which is apparently the nonstop travel time of the trains in question without stopovers for sightseeing or whatever. I like trains, but I'm not sure I'd want to be locked inside one for literally 4 days straight. Surely trips of similar length are available at more reasonable durations elsewhere?

1) The US is loving massive, driving in a car coast to coast is 3-4 days so it's not that weird 2) Yes, US passenger rail is infamously bad and slow. Civilized countries have much better trains.
