Hot take - "Dresden Dolls" is mediocre at best, and strictly appeals to certain goths on two points. The superficial visual component that's on-point for your average sophomore-year-community-college-dropout art history major in the demographic, and Amanda Palmer's blustery narcissism providing role model material for the blustery narcissist goth that just pretends they hate themselves.

I don't care if it annoys him or not; I will listen to this song any day of the year, not just on Halloween. What I love about Ministry is how they evolved from this to Psalm 69. It's like a complete 180 and both versions are great. My HS boyfriend's older brother was the ultimate goth, and quite a bit of it rubbed off on my BF. I remember us blasting around town with "Jesus Built My Hotrod" or "TV II" blasting at full volume, maybe with some Bauhaus or Joy Division thrown in for good measure, convinced we were total badasses and that we'd live forever. Good times.

Pslam 69 was his peak, though. It is the album you should throw at any potential baby bats you happen to stumble across to make sure they end up occasionally applying black mascara.

Brian was holding that goddamned band together. The piano + drums combo was novel, some of Amanda's lyrics are a little clever. The first one or two albums of theirs were neat, weirdo visceral art garbage. After she went solo and tried to "innovate" all of it was completely unlistenable trash, assuming you were able to listen to her stuff to begin with. Not to mention she's a garbage person who after becoming a millionaire stiffed a bunch of starving indie artists for their performances after spending the prior decade complaining about that exact thing happening to her. I wouldn't mind re listening to some of their albums but every time I get the urge I remember that she's a piece of poo poo and it kind of ruins everything.
