I tried to get out of jury duty with the financial hardship/mental health caveats. It didn’t work despite having documentation. Thankfully I didn’t get called to drive an hour and a half for up to a month or whatever it is that they can hold you to for federal cases.

Before my grandma died they called her several times for jury duty while never once calling my mother. Every single time my mom had to call and explain that this woman had severe Alzheimer’s disease and provide documentation so she didn’t have to bring a dementia patient to the courthouse. My mom was very excited to do her civic duty but nope, whatever RNG they were pulling from really wanted an Alzheimer’s patient instead.
