I’d be interested to know what the pecking order is among YouTube stars. For instance, which of these channels is bigger ? Neebs Gaming - >1.7M subs with ~130k-200k views per video with 4-6 videos per week -OR- RedLetterMedia - >900k subs with 400-800k views per video with 1-2 videos per week Looking at just subs, Neebs seems bigger, but looking at videos, RLM seems more popular. In reality, their weekly viewership is probably about the same, but I’m curious about how the actual content-producers see it. EL BROMANCE posted:So, that Battlestar Galactica finale... So, 10 years later I finally got to rewatching this. Some thoughts: - still has some of the best SFX done on TV. The work they do on The Expanse today is more detailed, but BSG looks better than many contemporary films and even modern shows! -Each episode is fun and well done. The acting is phenomenal and they have a great, ensemble cast. -Each episode starts with the tag line “...and they have a plan.” Clearly, the writers did not. So much of the show is undone by the choice of the final five cylons. Rewatching the first two seasons, so much is rendered completely irrelevant or has all of the drama removed by later decisions. Rewatching and seeing that two cylons are having a philosophical debate about their humanity loses its dramatic effect when you realize that the writers don’t know they are both cylons, yet. -Michael Hogan is the poo poo: Tyclops 4EVA!

greententacle posted:I only saw the first season of Galactica because it was airing at a reasonable time here, when season 2 came out, they pushed it back a lot later, and I wasn't going to stay up that late to watch it, and didn't bother trying to record it. I did pick up season 2 on dvd but I haven't watched it. Once I looked for it on Netflix, and at the time they had the original Galactica, Galactica 1980 & Caprica, but not the reboot Galactica. It's on Prime.

HorseRenoir posted:I knew about R Kelly being a piece of poo poo for a very long time but I didn't realize the sheer scope of how evil he is until watching this mini-series. Every episode features some really extensive stories of how R Kelly systematically destroys the lives of every woman around him, and the most disturbing thing about it is how increasingly organized, meticulous, and complicated his schemes get as the years go by. R Kelly is a real life supervillain. This is all pretty disgusting and I didn't realize the magnitude of how lovely he is, but I am tired of people laying the blame entirely at the feet of the rapist when it takes a team of handlers to find, groom, and cover up these events. gently caress the whole system and everyone involved, they're just as guilty as R Kelly or Cosby or Louis CK.

Why is everyone laughing at Lucy Liu? X-O posted:The only way I can fathom anyone not thinking that R. Kelly wasn’t a big mainstream star is they were either a child or not alive at all in the ‘90s/early ‘00s or they just didn’t pay attention to music. Yeah, I was in high school/college then and I was aware of the R Kelly thing solely as a Golden Showers punchline from Chappelle. It was also ~a different era~ and we should rightfully look back with horror and disdain and what society accepted.

Wheat Loaf posted:Huh, that song's 20 years old this year. I think it’s 10 years for modern.* But, honestly, I’m having a hard time conceptualizing this. It’s perfectly acceptable for a “modern rock” station to play mid 90s music these days. But the idea of a “modern” station playing something from the late 60s or early 70s, during the 90s, is patently absurd. *Anything Trent Reznor does should have 20 years added to its release date. Seriously: Head Like A Hole is 30 years old!?

I was driving a moving van up from Texas to Kentucky, and there was about 500 miles of nothing but Christian Talk/Rock radio. I finally get within range of Nashville and find a good station: playing my jams! I’m rocking out, having a good time, when the station identifier comes up: “you’re listening to Goooooooooooolden Oldies! The best of the 70s, 80s, AND 90s!” Oldies is still pre-1960 to me...

People dressed up to go to the shows, they danced, the girls looked gorgeous. It helped that I was a sax player, so I felt cool for the first time ever. (It didn't last.) Perfect username/post combo. In other news, after 10 years and multiple attempts, I finally finished for the second time since the initial airing! Good show, great production values, each episode is wonderfully written, ~amazing~ special effects (especially for the time); but ultimately it was a product of its era and fell prey to the 00's usual issues. Namely, throwing spaghetti at the wall for the over-arching plot which ultimately either took the wind out of its own sails or just made the wonderful in-episode writing pointless. Still a wonderful show which influenced a lot of modern television and helped to mainstream sci-fi in many critical eyes. that Amazon suggested Babylon 5 as soon as the finale rolled credits.

The Lord Bude posted:I'm struggling to comprehend the idea of people listening to the radio in 2019. You guys know that stuff like spotify and apple music exist right? you can play your own music, whatever you want, whenever you want. Even before then, CDs existed, and aux ports for an mp3 player. People say "DFW" instead of "Dallas Fort-Worth" because it the former has you move your mouth less, even though the latter has fewer syllables. People are that lazy. To wit: plugging in your phone and turning on Spotify is many more calories than just pressing the "on" button.
