Can you gimme some ideas as to what you use tasker to do? I wanna get into it
basic stuff everyone should be able to do is set up events for times of day and when you exit/enter range of specific wireless networks or whether its charging or not and base tasks off those conditions
dis/enable requiring a pin when youre enter/exit range of your home network, adjust your thermostat, wake your network devices, bring up traffic maps, open shopping lists, download podcasts, open an emulator when you turn on a bluetooth controller, lock your work pc
its customization for you so it entirely depends on what you like or would like to do

If I wanted it to automatically go to magnetdl.com and download a torrent three days a week could I?
depends on how specific a download youre looking for i suppose
you could use say a python script or if thats out of the question have it open the web page and click an x,y coordinate on the screen

could I set it up to turn on BitTorrent whenever I encounter a public WiFi?
i dont know about phone bittorrent clients
on pc i expect just about every bittorrent client to have alternate web interfaces that make controlling it as easy as GET request (a regular link or a url in the location bar)

also "open" wifi hotspots at businesses often host a logon portal you have to go through in a browser before your machine gets real access

If your phone is faster and more efficient, you actually use less power overall
a speed chart does not indicate efficiency
also the speed increase is negligible when pages load basically instantly if you block ads (and even better if you control scripts too)
tempting offer spending a bunch of money every year to potentially be more efficient while bored staring at my phone though

That's speed on the right and power consumption in Watt and Joules on the left, here's another one
Not sure how else you can interpret data showing higher performance while consuming less average energy is not showing efficiency.
probably because im quoting the post at which point you have only posted speed charts. just a theory. nothing anyone could be sure about

post the chart thats speed/energy/$ while youre at it but honestly i dont care

faster phones at this current point are good for some sort of bragging rights among some goofy internet clique somewhere im sure instead of anything practical (cited uses itt are literally loading apps that will stay open for hours by a fraction of a second faster)
like how in PCs ram usage used to be optimized in the sense of using as little as possible because it was something to be considered scarce and once ram became something to be considered abundant you optimized ram usage in terms of how you could make good use of as much of it as possible
phone speed surpassed what people generally want to use the phone medium for (a lot of people arent interested in phones as a serious means of gaming) and if you want people to care you need a better use case
at least for practical people. for apple fans the use case is being able to say "i own the newest iphone"

and before you argue in favor of iphones to me again i should tell you that youre wasting your time if tasker hasnt been released for ios. if you cant make your iphone act like a mini jarvis you might as well get yourself a mid 2000s flip phone. youre paying more for less at that point anyway

im looking for the thread where we talk about paying more money because we are too technically inept to install adblock like its a brag. is this it?

Also it's totally fine if your Moto X4 or whatever budget phone is more than quick enough for your needs and it's cool that a cheaper phone enough for your needs in browsing porn and Youtube videos, but I have a co-worker who returned his Moto X4 two days after picking it up and bought a Huawei phone with a faster processor because the lag in some webpage loads was noticeably annoying for him. Which is why stuff like "I bought a Samsung Jackhole S4 for $150 and it's so fast! Why would you ever spend $800 on a phone?" is goddamn dumb.
ah yes. and i do enjoy the easily crushing the task of rendering html which is definitely on par with the most demanding stress tests

Pretty cool that I'm not vaguely arguing a pro-Apple angle or whatever and solely lamenting how riddled with impossibly bad Javascript/SVG the average website on the internet has become, but congrats on your brain worms.
you called people who said they dont need $800 phones stupid like 2 posts up while burning a rival brand with a lame pun in the midst of your not knowing how or pretending not to know how to control ads and scripts on an internet that demands the highest performing cpus we can throw at it

i cant even tell if this persona youre doing is real or fake but its retarded

you said you werent "sure" about why i wasnt making determinations about efficiency in my post where im quoting your post from before you posted battery consumption charts in continuation of our conversation. i gave you a "theory" not calling the data a theory. pretty evident since i clearly state that right where you quote me

coke posted:

There's nothing to really discuss anymore if someone sees actual measured performance being 'a theory'. Since you benchmark and optimize your hardware/software with those measurable criteria.

Much like performance on android, it's just a theory so who cares.

Even the forums with mp4 'gif', twitter and inline photo embeds are taking longer than the 9/11 thread to load. Good thing you can throw more hardware at it if you buy a specific brand/cpu.

And what are you going to do? adblock the funny gifv? :smug:
the storage size of apps, rendering h.264 video, rendering gifs, and photos are all not cpu intensive things

snes emulators will install on an android phone but you will find them quite unplayable. the atari 2600 emulation is flawless though
