Winsock was around but, wasn't in 95 as standard i think. Not until 98.

I built a chatroom program Winsock and VB6 and hid it in the Norton ghost image at school. New semester rolls around and the freshly partitioned desktops had it running in the background in all the labs.

Very useful for calling people gay over the LAN, as was the norm in 1999
