Blind Rasputin posted:How is this show Colony on Netflix? I’m on ep 2 and it seems ok. Gosh I just need a good well produced semi-sci fi adventure action drama show. I’ve watched OA and most many mainstream things. Any recs for shoes that may have flown a bit under the radar? Travelers was pretty decent. Everyone who told me Person of Interest was going to be amazing was wrong. That show didn't get much better even when it finally got out of procedural mode and killed off that cop who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. I only finished it hoping this "best sci fi show ever made" would somehow appear at the end. It never did.

Rim of the World You know those movies where you're 20 minutes in and you think, "Ok rough start, but it's going to get better any minute now". Then another 15 minutes go by and you're still thinking, "Ok, there's still promise here, any minute now it will get better". Spoiler, it never gets better. I can put up with some baaaaaad movies if there's an alien invasion happening (still enjoy Battle: LA), but this one is not worth your time.

Think I'm getting old. 4 eps in and The Boys is just okay so far. Certainly not worthy of the gushing praise it's been getting. I just finished a rewatch of Deadwood though, so maybe it's not fair to put a superhero show up against writing of that quality. The Spice Girls pep talk made me roll my eyes. The writer thought they were just sooooo clever.

Funny I read the book when it originally came out in hardback, but I still have yet to watch the series. I plan to correct that before Halloween. Yeah Summer of Night is really good. New season of Jack Ryan was so loving stupid. A daylight helicopter assault on the presidential palace of a sovereign nation? Jack Ryan beating a head of state? The grand conspiracy was Venezuela mining its own natural resources? The too obvious last minute reveal that the senator was in on it the whole time. . I think I'll pass on Season 3. Such lazy writing.

Class Warcraft posted:I watched the movie Prospect on hulu. It's about a low budget sci-fi movie about a father-daughter team that land on a dangerous gold-rush world to try and make it rich. It's got a really cool atmosphere and uses a clunky 70's tech aesthetic similar to what you'd see in Alien. Anyway, it's pretty gritty and really more of a space western than a sci-fi movie. Also it has Pedro Pascal in it. Would recommend. Yup its awesome. Killer soundtrack as well. I always recommend it.

Corniness is fine if they still keep things reasonably interesting mystery-wise (I also wish Murder She Wrote was still up) but I don't especially want procedurals (Criminal Minds is so mediocre that I watched almost the entire run a few years ago and I couldn't tell you the names of any characters) and I really don't like gore (Hannibal and Bones are too much for me) Can't believe none of yall are suggesting Longmire. Aside from the usual, " how many loving murders take place in a town of 250 people?" problem it's quite good.
