Santino brothers wrestling closed. Hopefully they can re start in a new location when California opens up gyms (the governor didn't give a strict time table but it looks like 2-4 months). If it's permanently gone, it's a huge blow to the west coast indie scene. They're one of, if not the best school on the west coast. Geez, at least one local indy (MCW) has said they won't start running shows again until September. Not sure what Prime Time Pro is doing, but I know they and Flying V have canceled at least through June.

Rick Cataldo always struck me as kinda skeevy but people vetted him until they went silent about him. That's when you know the indie scene's blackballed someone. When they stop showing up in group photos or being "that guy sitting on a couch" in random promo vids.

So I'm putting together info on Women's Extreme Wrestling because its one of those trashy indie things people tend to gloss over or would rather forget. For better or for worse, names like GI Ho and Nav-A-Ho will forever be emblazoned in my mind. I've got a bunch of files with wonderful names like Bloody Booty and Big Pimping Booty Kicks Butt that I'm trying to line up with the cards cagematch has listed. There's a bit where Francine(yes ECW's Francine) comes out drunk and smoking a cigarette. She insults the crowd like a drunken housewife. Its pretty wild stuff. They have old ECW set pieces withe the WEW logo plastered over them. You can tell this promotion only existed to fill the tape pipeline that ECW had going. They put Sumie Sakai in a schoolgirl outfit. Despite the grossly racist nature, I felt it was an improvement? Mercedes Martinez vs Cindy Rogers happened and it was the damndest match. The crowd was pretty fuckin hostile but when the wrestling kicked in, they got into it. Trying to find bios on the various performers, which is fun. I know that Pussy Willow is a regular on the Nashville Burlesque circuit. Eric Gargiulo is the perfect voice of the incels. Tho sometimes I can't tell if he's in on the self owns or not. Many of the women are graduates of the kind of wrestling style April Hunter and Annie Social are real good at: cat fights. Kristy Kiss vs Tara Titanium(not to be confused with another performer called Tara) had a really trashy cat fight with all the plunder you'd expect from an ECW ripoff. Its a loving sight. There's US PPV grade(NO VULVAS ALLOWED) girl girl porn scenes. One features the Pussy World Order doing an orgy limo scene and at the last minute a dog appears on a lady's hip. This poor dog had been sitting through awkward exchanges of saliva very patiently. So far only one of the DVDs seems to be in a match porn match format. Obviously not as successful as they'd thought. Another weird thing is about 6-7 of the DVDs are just Women's Superstars Uncensored matches from after the CZW buyout. But its all WEW graphics. Some real bangers in there tho.

That a straight-up shindie wrestler like Rick Cataldo had all this silence around him when he was molesting people all the time and had a lot of people who didn't like him in general all is just...odd. It's also a strong statement about the shame that people feel after being abused and how it keeps them from coming forward. Rick loving Cataldo was not someone who would be dishing out any major reprisals; he was a very meh wrestler who ran some shows and almost never travelled for bookings more than 90 minutes from where he lived. Thankfully, there are MUCH better people running inclusive and LGBTQ showcase promotions, including in his backyard, where we have Battle Club Pro (inclusive) and Uncanny Attractions/Drag and Dropkicks (outright LGBTQ-themed/showcase shows); plus Billy Dixon had Paris Is Bumping booked until the pandemic hit.

For the longest time it was easy to ether someone in wrestling. Pre-social media there was no real avenue to build the kind of “safety net” social media allows where you can openly talk about stuff that would affect your status. It’s still not perfect tho. We tend to see ‘complainers’ debooked quite a bit.

I skimmed through some shows on YouTube looking for Botchamania clips and witnessed: Austin and Rock rip-offs, Howard Stern whack packers, morbidly obese hillbillies, someone powerbombed onto a flaming table that didn't break.
