It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
I mean it's better than everything after 2 except TSCC, but I don't care if I see anyone in it ever again and I also don't see myself watching it a second time. It's just another reboot that doesn't have the magic of the original. What if John Connor....wasn't John Connor? Well it's still the same loving story of time traveling robot nonsense, only increasingly pointless as the AI sends increasing waves of robots to fix it's mistakes. Why should I give a poo poo about Danielle, she's just going to get killed by robots at some point. The conceit of the setting only works the less you think about it, and the more movies they have the stupider it all becomes.

John Connor sucks. He was a fun kid but I don't think he can be a good character as an adult in a non-apocalypse world. The franchise is kind of stuck for new material, so making a movie that doesn't involve John was a good call.

They replaced John Connor with John Connor. Why do I care about John Connor, after you just killed John Connor? Because you aren't explicitly calling them "John Connor" and having them fight "SkyNET"? That's not a narrative difference. It's going "This isn't your daddy's John Connor, fellow kids!" and expecting me to give a poo poo. And I didn't. It was an alright movie, better than the reboot, but I'd never bother to watch it again. A word replace on a story I've already seen isn't a new story. It's just new casting. And that can be good, but this wasn't.
