It was obvious redbaiting and pretty disappointing that Bernie took the bait. He has a better record on opposing intervention in Latin America than any of the candidates and could have answered along those lines but nope. Hopefully he gets pressed on his answer because he really does need a better answer to "BUT VENEZUELA" questions than this since they're not gonna stop.

100% agreed. Weak rear end answer from Bernie. I get that debates prevent you from being able to articulate all the nuances of why things went bad in Venezuela and especially american fuckery in Latin America but that's on the campaign to solve.

Still the best but drat, disappointing.

Even if they didn't want to get into nuance over sanctions and how those intentionally force "dictatorial" behavior as a justification for regime change, I think there's a pretty widespread sentiment of "let's not gently caress with other countries" given how Iraq and Afghanistan have gone. He could honestly just say "Venezuela has the right to pursue self determination without our involvement" and it would still be better than towing the NatSec line on "free and fair elections" or whatever else.

leftists defending the protests while claiming to understand the effects of the embargo are either the stupidest motherfuckers, or worse, so chauvinistic that they think cubans are just too simple to understand who is responsible for their actual grievances.

The consequence of a hundred years' worth of anticommunist propaganda. Since none of these people know anything about Cuba, its people, or its history all they're left with is crying about "authoritarianism." When your political education is missing any examination of actually existing socialist states or how US imperialism factors into it then you're left with this squishy bullshit
