puve posted:Thanks for posting these! I have heard a little bit of Front Line Assembly before and they're pretty good, but I never saw that video and it's one of the best music videos I've ever seen. I love sci fi movies from that era and they clearly put a lot of effort into it. Actually they just stole 90% of the footage from a Japanese movie called "Gunhed." puve posted:I had no idea Billy Idol made an album called "Cyberpunk" and now I have to listen to it even though that song isn't his best lol The whole album is terrible. This is another band like Front Line Assembly that I know a lot of people love but never really grabbed me, I will try to check out some of their more popular tracks at some point but it's not a priority if I'm being honest LabyaMynora posted:Actually they just stole 90% of the footage from a Japanese movie called "Gunhed." Maybe it's because of geographic and cultural distance, or the age I was at when I first encountered it, or the brief window of popularity it apparently enjoyed between its much more well known forebearers and successors, but to me UK garage from around the turn of the millennium is one of the most futuristic sounding genres of music. While it had clear influences from 90s r&b, rave and dancehall music, wasn't as aggressively artificial/weird sounding or dedicated to pushing the limits of sound systems/wasted partiers as a lot of other dance music, to me it feels like something you might hear people in the future listen to as opposed to a soundtrack in the background of a futuristic scenario. Any recommendations for stuff in this style would be really welcome, I don't know a lot of it having never been there in its place and time, but I really like stuff like Sunship and Artful Dodger

Cyberpunk means something different to everyone it seems. Lots of Retro wave stuff out there. lol I'm sure the music in Cyberpunk 2077 will be pretty decent, (if not from the Dredd guy alone) but having said that, I've been cultivating a playlist on Spotify for awhile now with my idea (somewhat loose) of Cyberpunk for the upcoming game as well. When I think of cyberpunk music I feel like the punk part is glossed over a bit, but not in the punk genre sense necessarily. I took it more of an anti-music approach but with cyber aesthetics, the opposite of what I think would be considered Pop(trendy) in the future. I tried not to get too abrasive so there is some corporate polish here and there and some stuff that fit the vibe of dystopia I guess. It has no specific genres, but nothing too crazy, I wanted something that spanned a few moods. High tech, low life, industrial, glitch and bass etc. I tried not to dump whole albums into it, some EPs tho :3 Lots of stuff in here is great for autists lol lots of grit/distortion/drums if that's your thing. /shrug https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2IFjYfpTSVzXfSO0eFAwI0?si=Br7LR7VwQQykZ6rVP54hhQ Use Shuffle *** (Any suggestions feel free to hit me up, I'm building it as I find new stuff that fits the overall vibe.) Other stuff that may be of interest, I know it was posted by another goon awhile back in some other thread. Billain is Drum and Bass producer who has some interesting stuff. He has done some video/audio promo work for Blame! (cyberpunk manga/anime) which is pretty neat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ6QjjdTlwE He also has a fairly new album out that has a heavy cyberpunk influence that is really well done for the genre. (DnB) https://open.spotify.com/album/3zSwdzRycicRxfRQ5w1bKy?si=LM90IEnYThW28Luv87iioQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ6QjjdTlwE Video for the album, lots of cyberpunk aesthetic and some really cool sound design. Gore Tech is another drum and bass producer with a release out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pybrr3veX_w Sampler video has some cool vibes. Not sure if anyone posted about the Datacode - Wraithmachine project yet. This whole project is very 'cyberpunk' and I love it very much. Cyberpunk glitch sound design and electronic bass reworks by other artists. https://methlabagency.bandcamp.com/album/wraithmachine There's a couple videos for some tracks. Methlab is a label with some really cool projects some 'cutting-edge exploratory aesthetics' as they say. Some interesting electronic bass projects under them, not all cyberpunk though worth a check out, most of the stuff is on Bandcamp. the_enduser fucked around with this message at 14:05 on Oct 12, 2019 |

There's this compilation of Japanese cyberpunk B-movie worship titled Tokyo Crisis: https://synthspiria.bandcamp.com/album/tokyo-crisis And this one's titled Now That's What I Call Angry Robot Music 2019: Now That's What I Call Angry Robot Music 2019 One leans really hard into the cheap 80s synth sounctrack music "wave" while the other is more industrial, but both turn the distortion knob way up. That's punk, right?

Aside from imaginary bands like Lo/Rez and sidelong references to Bowie, the genre of music that flows most through William Gibson's work is dub reggae. So I'd suggest some Scientist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl-hEaD_Byk&t=34s EMA's The Future's Void is influenced by Gibson's Sprawl trilogy, so I'd suggest that as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8-rNMPTnyg
