Also please spend some budget on fight choreographers / anyone who knows how to film a fight scene for next season. Or just don't have supe fights anymore because this and Herogasm were pretty mediocre.

e: I'll say it: Superman and Lois had better action sequences than The Boys and that's loving shameful considering the budget disparity between the two shows. The former feels like they have a sense of style and are squeezing every last drop out of their budget while the latter are just people punching with the occasional eye lasers shot in a very lazy and pedestrian way.

I like the part in the fight where Maeve stops doing anything so she can stare and Homelander and Ryan for a minute just off camera.

Idk I think in the world of the Boys a supe fight is supposed to have one side easily being outclassed or otherwise it’s near-invulnerable tanks punching each other into the ground.

Butcher worming his way back into the group when Newman was shown as the VP was a bit much. They still should've told him to gently caress off. Now they are all Frenchie.

And speaking of Frenchie, what the gently caress was the point of the Nina subplot. Surely they could have had Kimiko reach the same realization without that useless poo poo. Part of me hopes we never see Nina again and part of me hopes she comes back to see if they can salvage anything of value from that.

It's not just the choreography(which was bad), but the way it was shot too. Just felt really bland. It would have been nice if they hired a director with a vision for the action scenes instead of just filming them like business as usual.

I wonder if the decision to make Soldier Boy Homelander's dad along with the producers and cast vibing to Jensen Ackles was what changed this season's trajectory. I figured S3 was always gonna be a cliffhanger ending so the reset was a little annoying but it was still entertaining.

Maeve yeeted a good quantity of novachuk into the city with no apparent consequence at all which is kind of wild to think about. Wonder if that'll show up in a new chyron next season.

I'm kind of annoyed by the inconsistency of the show for that one scene. Whatever Maeve had in her hand when she stabbed him, should have bent. I had the same issue with stormfront, that a knife could pierce her eyes despite her being tough as poo poo.

I think that whether this season finale was good will depend on where they take it next season

the boys fighting to save homelander because of one kid and vought staffers feels a little bit like that scene in clerks where they discuss the morality of blowing up the death star. So I guess it will depend on whether they play the whole "we're a democracy and we're going to vote to get rid of the superpowered fascist" straight or as a meta commentary."

Okay finale for the most hit-or-miss season yet, I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much because the plot had shockingly little momentum leading into this. I knew Noir was gonna die as soon as the Vought account tweeted about him.

Frenchie subplot sucked, lack of Maeve was disappointing and I was worried they shunted her off the show for a bit there, big lmao at Vought trying to write Soldier Boy off as a Russian agent.

They did my boy Noir dirty.

I feel like there's a lot of tensions building up around the politics that aren't explored. Homelander has a semifascist movement forming around him that cheers on open murder, Vought's stock price is dropping as it becomes Homelander's piggy bank, and he's maneuvering an ally into the White House. This probably ends with him trying to openly overthrow the government, as in the comics.

We've thrown around the idea that Soldier Boy's laser disrupts other supes' powers while it is charging, so you could say that he was vulnerable in that moment.

I think "mucous membranes are fair game" is a common trope in most super hero comics. The entire concept of the Ant-Man Maneuver hinges on it.

I don't think Homelander let them go because it was Even Stevens

The only real pain Homelander has felt in his whole life was watching Butcher march off with his son

And he had the opportunity to do it right back to him

Now that's scorched earff

It was that Homelander wanted to rub it in Butcher's face that the kid loves him now (very nice mirroring of the season 2 finale), but also Ryan was interceding to avoid having to see his two parental figures fight and maybe kill each other. He was very clearly distracting Homelander and using the best leverage (mutual concern for his safety) in that moment to deescalate the situation.

That said, if Maeve could do that much damage on her own I think the rest could've maybe finished the job, or at least seriously debilitate Homelander, even though they were all worn down.

Overall I liked it and think the season was strong but it definitely felt like a rebuild finale. Butcher is going to be even more nihilistic, at some point one or all of the Boys are going to get V-d up, Vic the Veep will make some kind of power play that blows everything open, and now you've got overprotective unhinged patriarch Homelander going apeshit while his kid becomes increasingly detached from humanity with the potential to be stronger than Homelander. SB is still the ace in the pocket, even though I have no idea how he or Maeve survived at the end there.

Bad stuff...Kimiko putting in her earphones before the fight was very bad, best interpretation is that they were making fun of blade 3 but still very cringe. The cross double cross stuff made very little sense - just have Maeve restrain Ryan while Butcher, Starlight, and SB kill Homelander and then sort out the rest? There was some other stuff that seemed very loose ends or messy but not distractingly so. Like how was A-trains brother already home and set up with the whole apparatus in the span of two weeks after breaking his spine? Also that argument was very contrived - A-trains brother has been involved with him all this time but suddenly draws the line at a racist murderer getting killed?

The way Noir went out felt very inconsequential as well but I guess it tracks with his arc.

Yeah I really feel the plan of just getting five or six A tier supes to whale on Homelander is a much better plan that anything else proposed so far.

The issue is there's really just Starlight and Kimiko, and Kimiko doesn't seem to really be on the right level. She can regenerate but she's not strong enough to do much to someone at that level. Maeve is out of action, and there's not enough temp V.

Any other supes are on Homelander's side, or at least not willing to fight him. Deep and A Train are his support squad, Noir is dead, and we don't really have anyone else in the wings.

He's never really been challenged by any of the top supes before. When they do fight crime its against regular people or at best low level supes. He's been overpowered twice this season (albeit by multiple people) which surprised him.

He's the most powerful supe in The Boys universe, but I don't think he's at Superman level powers, which is a stark contrast from the comics where he kills Maeve with ease.
