It began when the quote thread was thread was derailed yet again, this time by a discussion about writers. Somebody made a "strange aeons" joke and that caused a second derail about how racist Lovecraft was (very), whether he outgrew it (probably not), whether it was OK to read his works (undecided).I asked if anyone had any recommendations for weird fiction, Mythos-related or otherwise, from modern-day writers. Someone mentioned Winter Tide by Ruthanna Emrys as a really different take on the Cthulhu Mythos, and I bought it pretty much immediately and fell in love with it. What does this have to do with trash and/or gremlins? I'm getting there. Over in the Boston thread, somebody else posted about how they'd been feeding a skinny little street cat. I was planning on getting a cat anyway, this kind of accelerated the timeline, and then I saw this picture. I had to have her. So within a few days I grabbed a bunch of pet supplies and drove over to the address they gave me, and there she was! A bunch of goons in the Boston thread donated to help out with the costs and I literally broke down into happy tears. I feel like I'm lucky to have this feisty little trash gremlin in my life. She's still adjusting and learning that humans are not for chewing on but she is a good cat. Trying to keep her occupied with lots of playtime because she goes into EXTREME ZOOMIES mode in the mornings. She is currently asleep in my lap. Oh, right, Winter Tide. I named her after the main character, Aphra Marsh. Tweeted the whole story to Ruthanna Emrys and she followed me on Twitter! Stay tuned for more pictures, because posting her in the cute thread, the Boston thread, and the YOSPOS cat thread gets confusing. She deserves her own thread.

I had the thought that maybe some of the biteyness is due to stress from smelling my roommate's cat or whatever else can stress out a cat so I got a feliway type thing Maybe it's confirmation bias but I think it might be working because she seems more relaxed and happy I'm never giving up on this kitty. She deserves to feel safe and loved.

It depends on how keyed up she is. If she's in full on zoomies mode, you might not get that hand back, but if she's all sleepy and snuggly, maybe? I'm not really trying yet because I want to manage her stress and biting, not make it worse.
