If you're genuinely curious then spend five seconds clicking the link to the Analogue site in my post, they list everything else they've made on there as well.

Is there anything out there that compares to a modded Switch or Vita in terms of handheld gaming? Genuine question.

A modded New 3DS paired with a DS flashcart can play all of Nintendo's handheld library up to itself pretty easily. You can inject GB, GBC, Game Gear, NES, and SNES roms to play through Nintendo's own emulator. You can inject GBA roms too, they play natively since the 3DS still has GBA hardware in it.

It's now $49 but the website links to a bajillion rear end games that people have developed for it so it'll surely be worth the money spent

The 3DS does in fact not have GBA hardware, but much like the DS has an ARM7 CPU it uses to play GBA games, the 3DS has an ARM9 that it can use to help it play DS and DSi games. It is most likely the GBA emulation functionality came automatically when they implemented DS emulation (and again, it is emulation even if they have specialized circuits to make it faster, though the exact implementation is unknown), as DS games access both processors in that system, whereas 3DS games only access the ARM11 processor.

I think it might just be that I suck at setting up the emulator. Probably have another go at it as the long winter nights draw in.

e: i'm pretty sure you can uncensor that game in some way or another on every platform it came out on, you could do it on PS2 with cheat devices, you could do it on xbox with a modded console, PC was just the easiest

They're not emulators. Analogue puts thousands upon thousands of hours into engineering high-end modern systems with FPGAs based on the original consoles, so they're playing the original games on the exact NES/SNES/Genesis/etc hardware except with modern enhancements like a high resolution larger screen on their GBA thing. Maybe it's not for me, you, or anyone else in this thread who is happy with flawed emulation, but there are definitely people who are interested in enhancing the original flawless experience and I can totally respect that.

because its a fun project? SNES classic is a waste of money because you can buy a cheaper chinese android box to do exactly the same thing. but MintyPi is for people that want to do a simple do-it-yourself electronics project. its not really about playing games on an altoids tin.

after all you can play SNES roms on your phone. all of these handhelds are pointless
