why do people try to defend The Last Jedi because of its “themes” or ideas? whatever ‘ideas’ it has are stupid Hillaryman poo poo or generic lib poo poo that it constantly contradicts itself on. The “commentary on Star Wars” stuff is boring wankery. Anything even vaguely progressive that it mawkishly half says is inherently bullshit coming from Disney. it’s only real value is that it’s saying something about the franchise itself and that’s frankly worthless navel gazing. It shows a little promise at times but consistently shits all over itself any time it could be vaguely interesting. It’s ambitious in a sense, but it’s like a child’s idea of what would be ambitious and it never commits to anything it’s saying or doing. To me that makes it even more of a bummer waste than TFA, which was also doing commentary on the franchise but at least it knew it was hollow.

always way too much star wars chat itt but honestly star wars isn't particularly hard to understand, it's just sword and sorcery but in space with lasers mixed with spaghetti westerns and kurosawa samurai films all you need to make a good star wars movie is compelling heroes, compelling villains and a compelling conflict that sets them against each other yet the amount to which people can bungle this is quite comical
