Went trick or treating with the kids. In the rain. At least they had a blast. At least it wasn't snow. I'll chalk it up to a win.

I was the only person at work who wore any kind of costume, so I felt kinda silly. But gently caress it, it's a holiday and I have to be at work. Also my hard drives showed up, so I can rebuild my RAID array. Been looking forward to that; all my media is on there, so I can't even watch horror movies tonight!

I Reaaaaaaaaalllly need to order some new SSD's... My PC has a drive that sounds like a D Shackle in a washing machine (its backed up and redundant now) and my steam drive is absolutely chockers and the 2nd hard drive in my 2012 (the original 750gb mechanical!) has been making clicks and screaming at me about its smart status for a while now... Its only got..... 7000 power cycles on it

Zero kids came to our place as well. It was too lovely out and we just hid candy around the living room for our 2 year old, kind of like an Easter egg hunt. She doesn't know any better and doesn't even know what candy is yet. ...and probably still won't. She just ran around put it all in her candy bucket.

I was wondering if I could get some help from some international goons. While November mostly means thanksgiving for US goons, in commonwealth countries, November is a time to remember our veterans, with Remembrance Day on the 11th, signifying the end of the Great War. I am trying to put together a collection of remembrance poppies from around the world. Each country uses something slightly different: Canada: UK: France: New Zeland: Australia and others have different ones as well. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to mail me one from their country? I am Canadian, so I have those covered. If so, please send me a message at admin @ foxed.ca. Thanks!

Took my son trick-or-treating and dressed in my usual Michael Myers outfit. Been doing it for a few years now. It's pretty simple, Dickies dark blue coveralls, work boots, a fake kitchen knife and a good mask. The trick is acting the part. Walk very slowly and stiff, never turn the head, just the body. Stand and stare a lot. NEVER speak no matter how much the kids are begging you to say something. It kills every year, and now the kids search me out knowing I'll be around, I'll hear them yelling from the end of the street THERE HE IS!!!! MICHAEL MYERS!!! The adults love it too and I've managed to really creep some people out by standing in the shadows and just staring at them

Bottom of the line Corsair Builder series 500 watt (so, Seasonic I think?). Outlasted every Antec I've owned, same with Enermax.

Yay! "This video contains content from BBC Studios, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds." Halloween was actually pretty good this year. Last year, we only had a few kids, so still had a full bowl of candy that I had to deal with. This year, I didn't count kids, but we were empty by 9 PM (started at about 7), and gave out little glow sticks as well. Set up in the front yard and brought the fire pit around from the back, since it was 40-something degrees (Freedom units) outside. I had my phone hooked up to the garage stereo playing a Halloween party station on Pandora, and installed some smart bulbs I got cheap in the outside fixtures, set to an orange color. Was quite nice actually, just hanging out and handing out candy. In retrospect, I should have gone with my lumberjack costume, given that I've let my beard get ridiculous, and have all the flannel and Carhartt toque, along with a fake axe I made.

Halloween here is a relatively new thing (we have a very similar thing in February) but it’s really taken off over the past 5-10 years. At first I was like “Bah! Humbug from the colonies!” but now I actually like it. The kids dress up, lots of houses get done up quite nicely, sometimes with special effects (our neighbors had a step actuated laughing skull) and it’s nice because you signal your willingness to participate by whether you have decorations out or not. The wife had barely closed the door after turning on the light in our pumpkin when he had half a dozen kids at the door, think we saw 50 all said and done, all out of candy at any rate. The small ones were super cute, the bigger ones got a bit sneaky but that’s to be expected I suppose. Couple of accompanying parents welcomed us to the neighborhood and complimented our house. Our boy just turned two and initially he was a bit uneasy with the barrage of monsters ringing our doorbell in the middle of dinner, but eventually he came round and dished our the candy. He also went to the neighbors and scored himself a mini snickers. All in all a surprisingly good night.

Ours is just shy of two, so we kept him home except for saying hi to the neighbors across the street. They were super happy to see him. He did keep trying to leave with other families though. Thanks kid.

Imo AMD is the way to go from here... this one ran 4.5 or so for several years till hubby and I went 7700k. I rackmounted mine with a 2080ti (then sold the 7700k like an idiot) and dug this fucker back out, watercooled it to 4.8 reliably. 5.0 wasn't as reliable so I backed it down a hair. (and I had to lose HT). I use it mostly for making machine parts(cad) or programming. 1070 and 32gb ram on a p8z68 mobo with a hacked together bios. (I tried to get nvme boot to work but the stupid early rear end legacy/uefi boot kept getting in the way). I might drop the 2080ti in for some hahas before it winds up in the husbands machine.

Speaking of black friday deals, I think someone in here was posting before that the really cheap black friday tvs, etc are actually made cheaper and are lower quality than the typical non-sale models. I'm assuming this doesn't apply for things like M12 batteries and tools?
