I've seen that but as far as I understood it doesn't actually have any portal mechanics. Which kind of defeats the purpose.

It is still fun in its own way. The idea behind it is to use the basic VR teleport mechanic as a puzzle mechanic like you would the portal gun. No actual portals though as most portal mechanics would make you throw up in vr. jumping down a hole to launch out a wall and have forced rotation to land on your feet no thank you.

Now someone could do a VR portal game if they made it so you could only put them on vertical walls, but that wouldn't be Portal as we know it.

I've been saying for a while that a zero g portal game could work really well. Without gravity you don't need any forced rotations going through portals. Also, I feel like an Aperture Labs space station seems like a perfect fit for the universe, and a fun opportunity.

I guess you could also set it on Earth in a lab where they're experimenting with controlling gravity.

FStop sounded kinda neat when I read descriptions, but the videos I saw of the prototype looked terrible. Especially compared to what this dude has made, which is more along the lines of what I was expecting.

I could only handle portal VR if they dropped all of the momentum portal puzzles. It could be done, but it would be weak.

I said gently caress it and ordered an Index, I'm playing through Alyx again and I want a wider FOV and higher resolution/more clarity. I can't wait to experience it in three years.

edit: I'm also doing a Gnome playthrough and good jesus this loving sucks and isn't any fun. They should have let you just store the little fucker so you're just down an inventory slot the whole game, I think that'd be a decent challenge, but having to haul this little bitch in one hand the whole time is the worst.

Think of it this way, according to that interview there must have been at least a few play testers that made it through the whole game carrying that thing before it actually did anything

The dude plays "cinematically" so he takes his time, keeps his mouth shut, doesn't act like a dumbass, but is clearly familiar with the game so there's no dead time of him flailing around trying to figure out what to do or wandering aimlessly. He even does hand motions during the dialogue scenes, which I thought was cute.

Spent a few hours last night going through sound files in hammer. Maybe it’s voice blindness, but am I correct in thinking that the first 30-some lines under Alyx is the original actress but pitch-shifted?

Merle Dandridge did "90%" of the voicelines before being replaced for unknown reasons. Somewhere inside Valve is the rest, and I think I'd vastly prefer it

I bet there's exactly enough to get all the upgrades

Fully upgrading all your guns takes 270 resin. Last time I looked at a guide it detailed 296 total pieces. I can't decide if it's like Valve to have an even 300 or a weird non-round number. Some of them are very well hidden; one I had to crawl into a dark vent, turn a corner and keep going to get. Had to use room-scale type locomotion to get in there, which was a challenge as I barely have 3x5'in front of my couch.
there was also a headcrab hiding in the vent, the fucker

Diving into the files will certainly tell the real count.

So I read most of this thread after finally beating the game on Monday.

I didn't know that they gave you ammo when you ran out. I barely ever used my shotgun because i rarely saw shells for it. I used the pistol and combine gun because I saw more pickups for them. D'oh!

I'm also glad I decided against keeping a vodka bottle.

Yeah the ammo distribution is not a greatly designed feature. For some reason the game deprived me of SMG ammo constantly even tho it was my favorite gun and mostly fully upgraded.

I get scarcity is important in a VR game with intimate combat set pieces, I think the predictive drops have some glitches tho.

No the gloves are fantastic and a great implementation to grab things in VR. I meant the gravity gun in like the steam environments, just hope they mod in gravity gun with weight and umph.

Given how Alyx uses it in Episode Two, any realistic use of the Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator would cause you to take a few steps back from the punt effect, which screws with some players (Which is why Barnacles only choke you rather than lift you)

Barnacle lifting is a comfort option, I play with lifting turned on. I wish they'd take that same approach with the rest of their comfort stuff, I'd love to turn off the floaty falling.
