Reasonably or not, I would be so paranoid that the beam would reflect off something. Like if a bird had picked up a shiny gum wrapper and weaved it into a nest, and then the laser shines on it and for the instant before it vaporizes there's a death ray firing in a random direction and FWOOSH, that was a real nice eye you used to have.

Platystemon posted:What I’m getting at is that ducking didn’t do anything for him. He should have dropped it and jumped back. I disagree, that first duck kept the bumper from smashing his head and gave him just enough time to jump out of the way before the car resumed its fall.

Perestroika posted:Stumbled across this video just now. A guy wanted to do one of those fancy "cast molten copper directly into water" experiments, except he used ice water. Mildly for a small bleeding cut injury towards the end: The accidental "sprinkler system" that kicked on when the hose melted was a nice little stroke of luck.

Platystemon posted:It’s foreshortening and they’re not nearly as close as they look, I tell myself. Yeah, it's this. It's pretty straightforward to make something in the far distance look huge, and looming close to something in the middle distance, as long as you can keep everything in a line. Basically you just stand way back and use a zoom lens. NoWake posted:Filming in portrait mode gives it away immediately, plus most consumer handheld camcorders recorded at 4:3 aspect ratio until halfway through the aughts I suppose it's just barely technically possible that it was shot in the 1980s with a film camera, then recently scanned in, cleaned up and cropped to portrait for some reason. yummycheese posted:the other tell is when it shows the red led’s on the radios VFO readout. they’re blinking and out because its being recorded with a cellphone that does the rolling vertical shutter thing. its deff new footage. And with that, even that tiny possibility goes up in smoke. Good catch.
