I use 4x4 on boat ramps and in the snow more than anything else. It's rarely needed, but nothing else fills that need.

NE Indiana so we do get snow. It's not going to be the only vehicle but with the MS6 being a spazz it will likely be my main ride for a while but not permanently. Currently eyeballing a 2013 F-150. I drive 20 miles to work but my main route is non highway and it's a main road to the airport so they tend to prioritize plowing.

I wouldn't worry about it. 2WD with a bunch of 60# sand bags in the bed should be fine. I'd take the money you save on a 2WD truck and put it towards a good set of tires or (even better IMHO) a set of wheels with dedicated winter tires. My wife's Honda Fit did fine in Upstate NY winters so long as it had good snow tires. We still run them here in coastal MA, but not as much. Her CX-5 has been good thusfar in snow/ice with the stock Toyo allseason tires, but it would be a monster with snows.

Found a green wire way back that is completely severed but all lights “work” but that one license plate light, new bulb did not solve.

Further in the harness unrolled electrical tape and found this crimp does this look good/bad? White and black wires so should be ground.

The first picture is a nightmare, there's 2 bare-wire sections, and I bet there's no more slack in the harness.

The crimp looks like the camper-body folks cut the original white wire and added on the black. Looks like they did the same with the red in the BG.

I'd get a meter and start checking all the wiring after disconnecting all the bulbs and harnesses. I'll bet there are a couple of bad grounds or shorted together hots. Especially if it's ground-switched like Ferremit said. Is there any access in the fiberglass body to run new wiring, or is it vacuum-cleaner and bag+string time?

Rhyno posted:

I had a second set of stock wheels for the MS6 with winter tires so that's nothing new to me. Once I sell the 6 I'd likely invest in wheels and snows.

Edit: I just checked and there's a point on my drive where the road is an emergency snow route to the airport so it is indeed prioritized for plowing.
I run my 2500HD in 2WD in the snow all the time. It's got traction control, which is a godsend in a long-wheelbase diesel truck with minimal rear weight, but it's very drivable in the snow/ice. If I need to drive in really lovely weather, I put about 2000# in the bed with my forklift (usually a pallet of concrete generator pads or sand bags).

::edit::

everdave posted:

Yes there’s is a completely broken wore missing an inch or two back there. But all lights work but that one license plate one. If I tried adding ground from that crimp to something what would I ground to? There is nothing but fiberglass and wood back there. Can I ground to like a piece of metal I add or anything or does it need to be part of the van already?

Um, yeah, needs to go to the body/block/battery negative. You can run a new wire if needed.

i don't mind some of the subscription stuff because it allows me access to thinks that you just couldn't get before - eg i can now watch my premier league soccer clubs matches and i can watch my baseball team and hockey team despite not living in local market.

I don't love the subscription model, but boy do I understand it. It's recurring revenue, and that's how a company survives. I especially understand it with apps. The typical app has a growth period where it can survive on purchase price alone, but this rapidly deteriorates into only the "Mentos and Coke" folks buying it. Without recurring revenue, there's no income stream to keep the app updated, purchase servers/bandwidth, or improve things. It used to be with physical products, you could make money on repairs (car dealers, etc) or on obsolescence (PCs, consoles, etc). When it's digital goods and services, initial success becomes a veritable albatross around your neck.

I used to work as a field service technician for FujiFilm and around 2010 they proposed renaming the central server for digital photo labs as the "Digital Imaging Controller" or DIC for short - pronounced just the way you'd expect.

A US-based senior product specialist had to explain to the team in Japan why that was a bad idea.

A company that I worked for workshopped "Dedicated, Innovative, Collaborative, and Knowledgeable" as our internal team motto. Yup, DICK. There was also a "Verification Action Group"... VAG.

Rottweiler, while acting normally, started peeing blood last night, so I took him to the ER animal hospital (and of course he puked in the Raptor, thanks dog) - turns out he has no platelets and is a very sick dog. :( He's only 5. He stayed at the hospital and I spoke with them this AM, he didn't get worse overnight but will get an ultrasound and probably a chest x-ray today.

Apparently cancer, autoimmune disorder, or infection are the leading causes of this. We are having the worst luck with our dogs as of late. He did great recovering from TPLO surgery after the fire. Overall this dog does not have a hard life but whatever this is a kick in the teeth. After his leg surgery I signed him up for doggie health insurance so maybe that will help, tbd.

How come good people get all the poo poo luck? Hopefully it's something they can fix quickly, and he's back up and running around soon. Pets are the best and the worst. But the best.
