I had an argument with a friend back in 1999, shortly after The Phantom Menace came out, where said friend trotted out the "it's a kid's movie, you liked the original movies when you were a kid, but you're not a kid any more and that's why you don't like TPM" argument when I said it was a bad movie. Anyone arguing that Plinkett was somehow responsible for people hating the prequels (and thus fueling the current disdain for the sequel trilogy) is being completely disingenuous.

Now I'm reminded of how people tried to "well actually" and say that the original Ghostbusters wasn't that good of a film as some sort of half-assed defense of GB2016, as if it being true (which it wasn't) would somehow absolve GB2016 of being a lovely movie.

My favorite part of the Hobbit movies are the Lindsay videos, where she points out how Evangeline Lilly's spirit was crushed when they made her character a part of a love triangle, after specifically telling her they weren't going to; and how New Zealand threw their actor's union completely under the bus because some actors dared challenge the studio over a bit of money, to which the movie studio replied "oh well I guess we'll just make the movies somewhere else then", whereupon the NZ govt. gave in to the studio's every demand in order to potentially not lose a bit of that sweet tourism money that might be spent by people coming to "the country where LotR and the Hobbit were filmed"
