Hungry posted:I really really wanted to get into Saki, but like 4-5 episodes in (I don't recall exactly) I realised a working knowledge of mahjong was kind of important to getting the most out of the show. Yea, I felt exactly the same way when watching it a while back. There's still a bunch of fun character animations and good jokes that probably makes it worthwhile either way, but it was somewhat difficult to follow along with what was going on with the actual gameplay, especially since the show spends practically no time explaining the rules of mahjong. Then again, plenty of series get away with never explaining the core gameplay in full, like Shingetsu no Lion for playing Professional Shogi, and Wixoss for playing Wixoss.

I finished Sarazanmai. While I liked some of the individual plots and can get behind the main theme of connections both bring frustrating and wanting to get rid if them, but them also being what's important to us, a lot of it felt like noted auteur Kunihiko Ikuhara huffing his own farts and putting in a lot of gross crap with the Kappas just for the show to stand out more and get away with saying 'I did xxx thing on my show'. The setting is good, but there was a lot of wasted potential with how the 'villains' and side characters were handled, the episodic 'fight the kappa zombie' had poo poo choreography and was the same every time with no variation, and the ending goes hard in on 'things work out just cuz we want there to be a happy ending' without really earning it, and I hate that kind of ending in general. At least there were some fun moments with the main cast that made the short series worthwhile.

However, unless the issues at hand are urgent matters regarding somebody's privacy or well being, we ask that all of the posters please have a little bit more patience. The forums won't burn down in a day because someone couldn't address your needs right away. All of the staff are unpaid volunteers who work to help the SA staff in their free time; this is not a job for them, and they've been feeling a lot of pressure as it seems like once one fire is put out, two more spring up. However, if any of you do have legitimate concerns or even if you just want to ask some earnest questions, do not hesitate to message me or Wark Say, either through PMs, Discord, or by email at julias01sa@yahoo.com I can't guarantee I'll be able to answer right away due to work and real life circumstances, but I'll make a concerted effort to try to address any issues to the fullest extent that I can. Thanks again for your patience with us, and now you may start pelting me with your rocks and litter.
