As much as I liked P&R, nothing in it came even close to this:

Everything about this scene is flawless.

Fran Drescher is aging like wine so they probably won't even need CGI at that point.

I'm salty how Lady Stoneheart's story got nerfed for Beric.

Lady Stoneheart was a wack character though. If anything, we should mourn the loss of Strong Belwas.

Real talk, I feel like Stoneheart undercut the Red Wedding's impact since even if she's barely Cat, bringing a dead character back so soon (narratively speaking) felt off to me.

Belated but the best anime is Gankutsuou which is The Count of Monte Cristo in space and it owns bones. I think it's up on YouTube for free but it's only in 360p which is a shame since the show is gorgeous.

It's also directed and partially written by the guy behind The Second Renaissance (aka the best part of the Animatrix) for what it's worth.

I only just heard about The City and The City recently after playing Disco Elysium and talking about similar works, and a tv show sounds pretty rad

If you liked Disco Elysium, I would wholly recommend all of Mieville's oeuvre, specifically his Bas-Lag books. One of the throughlines of that trilogy is collectivism and socialism fighting tooth and nail against an oppressive regime over the course of the novels.

So far, the best part of Avenue 5 is Zach Woods' customer service character that's having a gradual mental breakdown. He's consistently the best part of the show.

Monster hunter is about murder hobos killing dinosaurs and dragons so they can make dresses and burgers out of them.

Eventually you find out some stuff about the environment so it ends up killing the dragons was necessary and you're not a bad person.

You could do a lot with the actual background lore of Monster Hunter. Like according to stuff from the old artbooks, the reason why the MonHun world is in such a state is because Humanity (which used to be space age at least) subjugated the megafauna so thoroughly that elder dragons came together to absolutely wreck their poo poo, twice.

You could easily turn that into a pro-ecological movie or do something neat with it but I'm sure Anderson will somehow make the movie about Milla being some sorta half dragon lady what kicks rear end.

After 5 episodes I've decided Avenue 5 is probably not ever going to be a show I'll enjoy, despite loving so many of the actors in it. Should I bother with Veep? It's one I always meant to get around to, but now I'm thinking maybe not.

I like Avenue 5 but Veep is like several leagues above it. The first few seasons of Veep are fantastic and even the last couple are still real good.

Having watched 4 episodes of Plot Against America I can't seen to piece together the seemingly bad reception the show has had. It doesn't seem to having any glaring faults, though admittedly I do not know the source material. It is definitely anxiety inducing on several levels to the degree I have to pause an episode several times as I watch it. Maybe the show is too close for comfort in 2020? But I honestly couldn't imagine such a thing affecting how well the show is received.

I liked the novel the show is based on but I definitely think it's a "this is really, really uncomfortable right now" air about it which is why some of my friends have refused to watch more of it past episode one. As a random aside, I love the juxtaposition of using The Road is Open Again as the theme song and the imagery of Americana slowly seguing into the Riefenstahl-directed scenes of Nazi Germany and the state-sponsored violence.

The final episode just aired. Grim. I appreciated the overall feeling of confusion in the episode, where no one really seemed to know what was going on in the country. Of course the whole show is "Oops! No Subtext!" but it was very compelling.

One thing I was hoping the show would've kept from the novel was Lindbergh's cuddling up to the Nazis and all of his abhorrent racism amounted to dick-all for the country because the Japanese still attack Pearl Harbor and drag the United States into the war after all. It really sold the grim pointlessness of expecting fascist promises to amount to anything.

I had a friend through high school and college who would incessantly parrot slurs “ironically” thanks to South Park jokes, including f****t, the n-word, “queer”, and that stupid loving Cartman thing where he’d accuse Jewish folks of carrying bags of gold around their necks. I wonder if he still does that poo poo now that several of our mutual friends (who he still hangs out with) have come out.

Basically, gently caress South Park for trying to continue that poo poo “ironically” and gently caress that guy in particular.

I liked some South Park episodes (and the movie) growing up but I will never forgive it for its ironic racism bullshit. I grew up in a very predominantly white area and absolutely loved being called Token all the time. One of my other friends got called Jewboy non-stop as well. I've carried a grudge against the show for like 20 years because of that.
