It is me, the Tom and Jerry connoisseur

Seriously though it doesn't look bad at all but I feel like it needs some people who can actually do physical comedy if they want to do live action and animation. Not to Tom and Jerry levels but something to meet them halfway.

Thanks, I think you identified what was falling flat for me - the animation and action is pretty good, but honestly gets muted when paired up against the live actors.

Holy poo poo, didn't realize that he had throat cancer (and in the last four years too). I think Paulsen's doing a great job after having gone through all that.

Who knows, maybe they'll change a few storylines to give some sympathy to the vermin?

I feel like the weird speciesism is such a glaring issue in the books that they basically have to do this. Which frankly I wouldn't mind at all as someone else who loved the books as a kid, and has since looked back and realized how kinda seriously hosed up the series was. And the more I think about it, the more I actually am genuinely interested in seeing how they hopefully address it in the upcoming series.

Chris Pratt is Garfield lmaooooooo

Genuinely thought you were just making a shitpost until I looked it up and uttered an audible "what the gently caress."

You know what, let's just skip on ahead to the inevitable movie where Chris Pratt voices every single character. It won't be pretty, but I'd rather just get it over with.

Hahaha, oh my god, that is somehow worse than the art in the actual movie.

Speaking of the new Sonic movie, have a trailer:

Until I watched this, I genuinely thought Idris Elba voicing Knuckles was just some running joke on the internet, not something that was actually happening. Also, even though it's just one clip we saw, it fits in a way that I didn't expect.

Overall, this looks fun as all hell - seems less fish out of water like in the first movie and more embracing of stuff from the classic video games.

My wife and I got back into our Disney rewatch and rewatched Pocahontas which is somehow much worse than I remember. A few random thoughts on it:

-- It's like if Gaston made a movie about himself
-- The backgrounds are very pretty, but the more realistic characters are atrocious. There is something so off about Pocahontas's running cycle
-- Jim Cummings is very distracting
-- It's really sad how Disney did straight up forget how to make musicals for a bit after Ashman. Even with Lion King, the songs feel less embedded with the film, but in Pocahontas it feels like there are at least two aborted songs and it's really weird.
--Savages is the only good song, but it's just a poor ripoff of "Kill the Beast"

I did a rewatch with my girlfriend about a month back and it was honestly kind of fascinating how not good it was. Also, things like Mel Gibson's overly prominent presence, Pocahontas bring magically granted the power of language from nature, the entire story being based on an exaggerated tale from John Smith that happened when the actual Pocahontas was estimated to be 11 years old, etc., went all to starker relief knowing that Disney 100% expected this to be their major prestige film of the year, and the other animated film that they were working on simultaneously was a bit more of an afterthought. That other film being The Lion King.

Also, today I learned that Pocahontas's original animal sidekick was going to be a turkey voiced by John Candy named Redfeather.....which is......

I will be honest, considering the movie as it is, I genuinely don't know whether this would have made things worse or better.

This weekend I rewatched Wall-E for the first time in ages with my partner and my god, I can’t believe I forgot just how good that movie is. I also forgot how good it is at making me tear up and cry a little for two robots who can’t speak more than a dozen actual words between them. It feels like a gorgeous masterclass in “show, don’t tell” - and made our following watch of Inside-Out almost a little jarring with all the explanation that needs to be squeezed within the first several minutes of the movie. I think for me, that’s always going to be Pizar’s pinnacle.

The only thing that’s really changed for me is that the Buy n Large megacorporation no longer evokes thoughts of “hahaha, it’d be ridiculous if that’s what Walmart eventually became,” as much as it evokes thoughts of “Oh poo poo, that’s Amazon in the next decade.”

Edit: whoops, new trailer was already posted.

And I'm with Boo - there's a lot of different game callbacks happening in the trailer, and it really makes me wonder how they plan on cohesively getting them all in without makign the movie overly busy.

Also, now that we've heard more of it, Pratt's Mario voice is....not good.

You don't even have to get Billy Murray to voice him. You could get someone like Nick Offerman, or H. Jon Benjamin. Or plenty of other people to do a Lorenzo Music-esque deadpan. This however? This is just the Emmet / Mario / etc. voice.,

What dirt does Pratt have on the VA industry

My guess - it's probably just a matter of studio execs who look at past movies that Pratt has been in, and think that Pratt = $$$, and it's nothing more complex than that.
