I just watched this again, and was wondering the reason that the animation goes from drawing to weird painted video? Was it budgetary when rotoscoping? Or some time constraint? I tried to look it up but found articles complaining about unrelated issues and i didn't care to read them.

Empty Places -- Geoffroy de Crecy (France)
Beseder (Good and Better) -- Gil Alkabetz (Germany)
Zoizoglyphe -- Jeanne Apergis (France)
Rain (Deszcz) -- Piotr Milczarek (Poland)
Average Happiness -- Maja Gehrig (Switzerland)
Aurora -- Jo Meuris (U.S.)
Yes-People -- Gísli Darri Halldórsson (Iceland)
Ties -- Dina Velikovskaya (Germany/Russia)
The Man Who Planted Trees -- Frédéric Back (Canada)

Caught this last night at the local Alamo Drafthouse. It was cool to see.
I really liked Empty Places and Rain
Beyond Noh was cool but went too quick.
Ties was neat. They used 1 line, but 3d. it gave a neat effect.
Yes People had some good chuckles.
The man who planted trees was great. Its an older book from 1987 animated in a similar way the book was drawn. I was unfamiliar with the story and I'll be looking into it.

All in all, a good way to spend 90 min.

After being betrayed by his peers and lost both his father and his right arm, legendary craftsman "Jingoro Hidari" is on a journey of revenge with his partner "Sleeping Cat" and his mechanical prosthetic arm. Finally, Jingoro faces one of his adversaries "Inumaru" in a fight to the death...

This is a pilot version of the stop-motion samurai film that tells the story of "Jingoro Hidari," a legendary Edo-era craftsman. All the characters are made by wood and animated frame by frame, just like how Jingoro's wooden sculptures came to life in his many anecdotes. We hope you enjoy this film, which mixes dynamic actions as seen in Japanimation, and the rich analog expressions of stop-motion animation.

Our intention is to use this pilot film as a starting point to create a full length feature film. We're currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to gain support for our activities to find the necessary partners to go into production of the feature-length version. If you liked this video and would want to see more of it, we would be very grateful if you can support us on Kickstarter!

Zagreb Film produced groundbreaking animated shorts in the 20th century, but their work has been hard to access until recently. Thanks to support from the Croatian government, the studio's curious animations are being restored and released on YouTube.

Cartoon Brew:
It's also important to be in the right mindset when viewing these films. Their films offer a freewheeling spirit of graphic experimentation and a relentless search for new ideas. Their commitment to avoiding easy formulas means that not every film is a smashing success, though even the lesser films tend to contain interesting elements.

Nah, megathreads are good. If something is popular enough to warrant its own discussion thread someone will usually create one. I don't know why Something Awful mods sometimes try to push back against megathreads. Megathreads are obviously something the userbase wants, and the purge never sticks anyway. The megathreads always come back eventually. There are ton of films that aren't enough to sustain their own thread and megathreads are a good place to post them.

Maybe the mod's have a threadcount quota?
I echo the sentiments above. Not many of the animated movies cause more than say 3 pages of discussion. So having Animation THE topic works well.

I just saw The Boy and the Heron. I thought they had a quick line that the mother had passed away 3 years ago when Mahito meet the old maids. Maybe not? The movie was beautiful to watch for sure. There was a lot of sleeping involved and I couldn't tell if the only dream sequence was the mother in fire? Think so.

I went in tired so I think I nodded off for a min.. I'll be going back again. I've seen the wind rises, but it's this like a sequel to it? It just thematically similar? Should I rewatch it before going back?
