Mother was like babby's first metaphor: the motion picture. I'm sure there were a few people whose minds were just blown wide open when they realized the titular Mother was Mother Earth and were doing the galaxy brain meme IRL at the ending but honestly it absolutely deserved that score because it was a stupid movie for people who think they're smart.

General audience just want to be entertained and/or are dumb sacks of poo poo, so lol if you think even half of the people who watched mother got any of this.

Anyway, mother was good and you making GBS threads on it for trying to be smart when the alternative is loving Endgame makes you look like a moron.

It's going to be both 3D and high framerate, which is good because it means a bunch of theaters are going to be upgrading their equipment to handle high framerate since they don't want to miss on the biggest blockbuster of the year so future filmmakers who want to experiment with it won't be limited to a small handful of special theaters like Ang Lee's experimental high framerate movies were.

Yeah, those future filmmakers? They will only get into those upgrades theaters when they buy a ticket to whatever sequel/remake Disney pumps out. Very few will actually benefit from this wonderful technological advancement of blockbuster cinema.

I think the audience for bond and people in 2020 is a non-touching circle.

Like James bond isn't anyone contemporary's idea of cool, most of the stuff he does is done more and bigger by a million other movies, a lot of his traits come off as extremely gross to even people that don't think of themselves as woke, the whole context of what spying is has soured in the public consciousness, and there has been enough bad bond movies that there isn't even much inertia of positive association.

I think they are trying to pass the new movies off as deconstruction of the character and his tropes, which was still kinda fresh in Casino Royale but has turned into "let's have Bond do the same poo poo he always did, but boring".

Eh, this is the Wachowskis basically pulling a Bill & Ted 3, there is some potential in asking what the Matrix is up to years after Revolutions. I have no idea how Neo and Trinity will figure into that and would have left them out myself, but complaining that Smith isn't also there sounds like "if you include x you have to include y" to me without any consideration of what the movie might be.

the smurfs movie only requires you to know that smurfs exist. same thing with sonic, peter rabbit, and everything in between.

Shouldn't those sequels be successful, then? I mean, I won't dismiss that this might be the logic that some execs follow, but it also seems demonstrably false.
