Hey so I made this thread because we all love riffing off each other's posts, and maybe we might enjoy riffing off each other's riffs too?
If you've got a cool idea for a group project maybe you can use this thread to organize stuff, or maybe just post your half-baked projects and neato loops you made and don't know what to do with. Someone else might be able to take your balls and run with them. Maybe you might be inspired to draw an art, or write a word as well, which is cool, :justpost:

Programs for the recording of the music and making of the unfinished projects:
A lot of people use Ableton Live because it is neat and not terrible to learn like some other programs and there's good tutorials out there. But it is expensive, though sometimes you get lucky and someone has some spare licenses still available. They do a lite version that gets packaged with a lot of midi equipment which is also good. There's Cubase and I dunno, is Pro Tools still a thing? Probably others. Check the music subforum or whatever. Audacity is a free and really simple recording app that's pretty invaluable when you just want to record and manipulate a sound file some without getting bogged down in details.
Apple gets to play with Garage Band which is really a super thing to include with your computer purchase. It's geared a bit more toward multitrack recording of live and midi instruments.
There's DJ stuff I guess too which is cool but I am not cool enough to know how what any of it does.

Programs for the making of sounds:
Arturia V Collection (comprehensive and expensive. Comprespensive.) and Analog Lab (cheaper, god drat good enough! loving CS-80V!) is like just a shitton of VST instruments or virtual whatever that is all classic synths and keyboards and is totally amazing. Sometimes comes packaged with their midi keyboards which are reputedly good stuff.
Literally tons of Android and IOS apps for the making of sounds.
Probably a lot of other stuff too.

Things for the making of sounds:
Bang things together in front of a microphone. Hoot and holler. whistle. Did you know that you can use a speaker as a microphone? Not a good one, but you can! Did you know the trombone track on By The River by Groove Armada was recorded into a speaker that they wired into a mic jack because they forgot to pack microphones? Well now you do, and feel free to share that little anecdote with everyone who didn't ask.

Places for the sharing of sounds with each other
Still working on it. I was thinking of setting up like a google drive or other cloud drive for people to dump project files into, but that could get complicated or unnecessarily lovely or hacked by moon bots or something - sounds complicated. Suggestions? Otherwise we're kind of limited to sharing just audio files, and maybe if you want to collab-ab-ab directly with a poster on a project file, PM them.

Hey it's ya boi owlhawk911!

owlhawk911 posted:

that would work p well but google is evil, i dunno. that's probably the most accessible thing and what will end up happening, syncthing is what i use but you gotta install something and some people don't like that. kiwi6 is an mp3 host i like, just because i always lose vocaroo links

i would love to do a crime and hook anyone interested up with ableton live, it's industry standard/easy to use and would keep everything super editable (has tracks as opposed to writing audio on top of audio every time). hmu, username@gmail i don't have pms yet because buying your own forums upgrades is dishonourable. LMMS is alright too, foss and would achieve the same thing but not as slick. audacity is the gold standard for rawdog audio recording and foss as well

So like you can probably tell this is casual as gently caress so it'll probably die many deaths but feel free to necomantize it whenever inspiration strikes because we are all better for working together. No man is an Island Records.

Hi.

I use FL Studio because I learned how to use it a long time ago and I don't feel like learning how to use anything else.

I have like a billion unfinished songs and a few finished ones, all mostly synthesizer and/or sample-based stuff.

I would like to collaborate on something.

Hi, same, only like significantly less than a billion.

Here is a track that has been sitting on my laptop for a long rear end time, but every time I open I really like it, I just don't know what to do with or where to go with it. Also I hosed up exporting it so it kind of just ends, but it's really just an endless loop so it doesn't really end. Which is maybe part of the problem?

I've got the Ableton project file if someone wants to try something with it, or if you can't loop the mp3 or need a different export let me know. Maybe it's good enough as is as like, background ambient which is kind of what is anyway.

well here's a thing, probably not ideal for this purpose cause i put too much stuff in but a place to start. anyone want to add anything? what should be different?

I dig the lazy keys. What I would want to do is add some reverb to the LFO or whatever that slow siren/wave is. And maybe some different reverb to the keys when they come back in in the second part

lmms is *very* similar to fl studio, i don't want to call it a knockoff cause that's mean but it's very very similar. imagine fl studio but from 5 years ago. just sayin, i like ableton cause of the clip view but fl studio and lmms are very much the same idea with the whole piano roll arrangement thing

Dammit that's a live 10 file and I've just got live 9, and they don't play together. Computers suck.

i'm gonna make something in lmms to post here tomorrow

I'm good, I said gently caress it and upgraded. But if there's some way of getting me a key for the Beat Tools Pack you used, I haven't got that one so a lot of the instruments are missing.

wowowow that vocal sample! It needs that, it needs more of that! I like what you did to fade out the ending too. But that sample was ace and exactly what needed to be added! Yeah I have no idea why that weird tempo is the track tempo, I'm sure it made sense at the time. I think what I did was tap out the bass/snare and then sync the master tempo to that or something. But it is set to exactly 77.712bpm.

nut

I don’t have a microphone on vacation but when I do agin there will be bad additions and worse intentions
