If the thing is to give Naito a big moment in the dome to make up for his weird Covid reign, it's gotta be him beating the top heel in the company and the world, switchblade jay white.

If things were less of a poo poo show in the US it would be neat to have BoSJ with one block touring the US and one touring Japan, because a lot of the juniors they've been using on Strong are pretty great. As it is I assume they'll just fly a few over to pad out the blocks.

Naito will win and have no match at the Dome, just be tranquilo and have a 45 minute nap or whatever. He will still find a way to fall on his head/neck when Ibushi walks by.

BREAD CLUB F-F-F-FOR LIFE Satoshi Kojima isn't in the G1. imo, Gedo should be fired for this. Not from his job, but out of a giant catapult. But travel bans have made shipping giant catapults internationally very difficult, so instead let's just watch some Kojima matches. If Kojima had been in this G1, he would get 9 matches, so we've gathered together 9 (well, 11) matches from varying points in Kojima's career to watch as the G1 goes on. They're mostly singles matches, but I threw in one tag match cause, come on, it's Kojima, who doesn't want at least a little bit of TenCozy action? On each night of B Block action during this G1, I'm gonna watch one of these matches and if you want to do so as well, we can discuss them and have fun and hopefully, see some sick-rear end lariats. Behold, Satoshi Kojima's G1 Climax 30! I know we joke about how "having a good match with Ishii isn't impressive, Ishii could drag me to 3 stars" but the fact that Ishii not only dragged several excellent matches out of Taichi but literally dragged a really good wrestler out of him is like, hall of fame worthy.

Ishii's matches against other CHAOS members are some of his best, he exists to make sure the other members of CHAOS don't get complacent. In 2019 alone he got the best matches out of both Toru Yano and Yoshi Hashi. I hope when he retires Big Tom gets to go to Disneyland as often as he wants.

Looking at this years blocks they arent at all balanced compared to last years A listers and Beef Block. The A block has all the best wrestlers AND beef. Theres almost no one in B block that I care about. If ZSJ and Toru Yano were swapped with White and Yujiro I wouldn't watch any B block event the entire tournament.

Goto and Shibata were tag champs at least once from memory - I recall a cool rear end celebration they did where they both did Shibata's sitting pose after winning the titles. The thing I most remember from that time though was one night Shibata and Goto were booked to fight each other and Shibata did an interview basically saying,"People say we're friends, but he's in my way and I'm gonna beat his rear end" or words to that effect, and then they had one hell of a match.

Also funnily enough every match of Ishii's last year G1 got a MOTY candidate and now he's in the block with the better wrestlers AND YET I don't think Ishii can get a MOTY candidate out of Yujiro. Yujiro is objectively worse than literally everyone in last years G1.

I enjoy Yujiro infinitely more than I enjoyed Fale, his greatest contribution last year was being the one to break ZSJ's losing streak, and you could have had a cardboard cutout do the same job

I fell into a Tomohiro Ishii sized hole following the posting of his match with Okada and I have somehow found my way back with one of the best 12 minute matches I have ever seen. It features the corn dog/fire hydrant hybrid Big Tom Ishii vs Katsuyori Shibata from the G1 Climax 2013. Before the match even starts the crowd knows these two are about to get stupid. Big Tom was always good. It's only 12 minutes long, you owe it to the Stone Pitbull to watch this match in its entirety. Thank you. https://njpwworld.com/p/s_series_00211_2_5

My prediction - Yujiro has generally well received matches with Ishii, Shingo, Ospreay (maybe), Ibushi and Taichi (they are all each of those individuals' least good matches in the tournament but are all watchable at worst) and people start accepting that Okada isn't the same as he was in 2017.

Part of the reason im all in on Shingo is i think they too have realised its time to move from Okada and hes one of the best chances for a Japanese torch bearer into the future. Ibushi is there too but i just like believing in new blood rising. The era of Okada, Tanahashi and to a lesser extent Naito is over, its time for Shingo, Hiromu, Ibushi and i guess Ospreay. I know Jay White exists but gently caress Jay White.
