So did you guys discuss how Russia failed to do SEAD yet because that seems pretty embarrassing?

It was discussed quite a bit up thread.

However, I was listening to a podcast where they had some former NSC guy on who is at a think tank now and he was saying that Russia is doing SEAD daily and Ukraine has taken a number of losses to their umbrella. However, the losses aren’t crippling and they’ve are being very disciplined in using their assets.

Edit: to be clear he said he wasn’t getting DoD briefings or anything so take everything with a grain of salt.

Do you have a link to the podcast?

They've never had to lol. And if you look at ground invasions from NATO/US, there are weeks of preparatory SEAD operations and strikes. Russia just rolled in day 1 and got hosed hard.

Granted I don't think just doing airstrikes while Western equipment poured in would have helped the ground assault at all.

I was watching a thing about it and the guy was doing a side by side with desert storm and it was jaw dropping.

I like this guy instead because I'm a cartographer and it tickles my fancy.

I think the most amazing thing about the Ukrainian air force is that it still somehow exists instead of being destroyed on the ground. Iirc I think I was talking to a buddy and they said that their Mig-29s are all using their original kit with no updates?
(Apparently they were scheduled to get upgraded next year I think)

I can't imagine that the officer attrition rate (from what Rob Lee has been reporting) will be good for the Russian military going forward.
I also wonder if it was the most experienced pilots that were sent in first but we probably won't know until the war is finished.

I didn't know that Kyiv had an entire bunker system + a bunch of dams to blow until a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely clownshoes operation in comparison to much more simple and doable thrust from the south and east.
I also have to imagine that rolling through Chernobyl really set off the European :wtf: alarms.

Right this isn't because of some nth dimensional plan the total initial Russian failure of the invasion operation seems to be that it was planned amateurishly and presumably hastily. Which really throws water on all the high minded theories on causes and lends itself to that this was a snap decision from one very isolated dude (Putin) who didn't take the time to make sure everything was ready for action or whether this plan was a good idea or not.

Mr. Koffman making the point that putin is in a big manpower bind because he can't mobilize without entering a state of war which means the special military operation failed. So that's why he is playing contract games and scrounging allies for manpower.

Eh - I understand this more than the anti-nuclear ones. Modern nuke plants are very safe, they simply suffer from 3 major issues - poor public perception, too much red tape, and a general lack of development/construction which creates a feedback loop for the first two.

Hydro really does gently caress up local ecologies and can destroy fisheries and habitats. But it's still (generally speaking) significantly better than fossil fuels.

Isn't there a massive shortage of nuclear engineers/techs?

The example of upstate New York nuclear then wind / hydro resistance has come up in the Energy Generation thread and a few ACC threads. They're not even clever about hiding the money trail.

Yeah uhhhh so, Airpower totally covers wind power generation industry, right? Right?

Still wondering why the Crimea Bridge is still up.

Like, that fucker is obviously very important to RF logistics, and now seeing that Neptunes can whack amphibious craft all along the Ukrainian coast, it would appear to be a great way to isolate, starve, and kill RF in southern Ukraine.

Bridges are hard to hit.
