[Infraction given] this is your last warning fella. One more mention of how landlords might be bad and you're out of here. And don't even THINK of saying anything specific about a registered trademark

There’s also reddit/Ireland.

For those who don’t believe trans people should exist, that Fine Gael are awesome, and that the real racists in Ireland are black people.

The country is filled with people like that and it's depressing. I've been thinking of just doing a ban me lately. That facebook video that was posted in the thread about the thing is all kinds of hosed up.

hey folks, feel free to check out the handy dandy discord link in the OP of the UKMT, we don't currently have an irish specific politics channel, but the "rest of the world" one doesn't get flooded too much, and if there's demand we could add an irish specific one

I was going to suggest that but I also would understand if for historic reasons irelandpol does not want to be a subsidiary of UKpol :v:

R/Ireland wasn’t always entirely bad. But it’s been shifting to the right over the last couple years.
Took a hard shift when coronavirus started. They had a terminator Leo as the banner image for couple months, you couldn’t say anything critical of our virus response without being dog piled. And when BLM started the mods banned any discussion of race relations as they don’t want to “Americanize” the sub.

Though they did take steps to stop obvious brigading by foreign fascists who were spamming racist shite during American day time hours.

Bad places both.

Though I have a special hatred for politics.ie where they had to restrict who could post in the NI subforum because it was such a poo poo show

Reddit Ireland used to be great but got shat up like Reddit in general when Digg imploded/the mods changed. Few good sites about to post on, Boards/politics.ie are toxic waste lands these days.

Where is an Irish poster to poo poo post?

Basically it has come out that Lowtax was abusing his third partner, and that he was abusing his previous two aswell. So now that no one wants to give an abusive shithead money, what happens to the forums is up in the air.

Unlike the last few dramas, this looks likely to gently caress forums as who wants to enable abuse?

Oh right, thanks, that thread is a lot more helpful than the rather useless sticky. They should probably have put a bit more effort into it.

In my 20 odd years on the internet I've never once seen a big forum like this survive a migration to any new platform. Critical mass just gets lost as people don't like the new replacement format, or just get diluted by people bleeding into too many new options.

I'd imagine a far better bet would be people trying to get Lowtax to let himself get bought out or retire from running the forums. But sure we'll see.

I think I'll wait until Jeffery of YOSPOS either buys lowtax out (lovely thing to pay off an abuser) to save the forums, or sets up his own offsite with better code and hookers. Bread N Roses is always there if I'm desperate. Isn't a big part of Irish forums being poo poo that the owners/mods are terrified of being sued into the ground for defamatory comments, hence you can't say poo poo about landlords or anyone thin-skinned who can afford a solicitor?

That was the big problem with Ticketmaster/McD and boards.ie I believe. If I'm remembering correctly the Irish courts judged that boards.ie was legally liable for anything posted on the forums by any user. So that resulted in pretty draconian moderation.

With only councillors it was 57/43 which was tighter than I'd thought it would be

Using one member one vote it would only have been 67.8% in favour - considering the greens require two thirds and the no deal elements are more vocal that does raise an eyebrow

fully expecting the greens to poo poo the bed tonight though

I'm in tow minds to be honest. If it doesn't go through and we end up with another election FG will do far far better whereas if they end up in the FFG unity gov when the covid bounce is over and people hate them again we 've a much better shot at a true left coalition after

If this deal dies and FF get bruised at the polls I'd expect Martin to get the boot, if the party changes tack in regards to working with SF (or more likely just not working with FG) as a reaction I think it would be pretty difficult if not near impossible for FG to govern by themselves even with the Covid bump - which yeah would mean a weird FF/SF/others agreement which ain't gonna be completely left wing but at least would kick FG out of power

So get ready for foreign journalists mispronouncing micheal martin's name I guess

It’s not a unity government though. If the deal passes we're almost guaranteed a full term of the 3 of them. Momentum and the promise of an extra pension can usually keep coalitions together.

Unless the polls at any stage indicate enough of a bounce for FG that they try and pull the plug.
Or FG do something that makes FF want to pull the plug to stick the knife in.
Or one of the Greens decides to take an ideological stance over something small.

Don't rule out FG's ambition, FF's spite or the Green's naivety.

Basically whole lot of moving parts here that can fall apart.
