That's primarily in the USA. Lots of places still use real sugar in things. Mexico is an example.

You'll see "mexican coke" and the like on sale in a lot of parts of the USA. It's just coke made for sale in the mexican market and has sugar instead of hfcs.

The coke for sale in Mexico has been glucose-fructose syrup instead of cane sugar for at least five years now. They do still make coke with sugar cane for their Coca Cola nostalgia stuff, with the glass bottles and all that, but that’s not the coke they make for Mexico.

Pretty much everywhere else uses real/cane sugar. HFCS is easy to pick out as it's nothing but cough inducing sweet and is missing residual cane flavour. Normal sugar else where is usually cheaper. The US is in this weird place where they grow so much corn and has tariffs against sugar. If I want HFCS to cook with I would have to go out of my way to find some like Korean cooking syrup in Asian shops.

HFCS still show up outside in American brands like Oreos or McDonald pancake syrup.

Uh, not really? In the context of diet/sugarless soda, people are definitely not talking about cane sugar specifically. Do you think "Coke No Sugar" has high fructose corn syrup in it? If someone were to ask "how much sugar does that soda contain" would you tell them "none" because it's sweetened with HFCS instead of cane sugar? Hope you don't have any diabetic friends.

They say cane sugar when they mean cane sugar, in my experience. Check this thread for reference. Not to mention sodas made with cane sugar will typically say "made with cane sugar!" and not "made with sugar!" when they want to advertise that fact.

I feel like it’s been a mix of corn syrup or sugar sodas depending on the brand, not sure about cane sugar vs beet sugar however. I miss BC but I think it’s gonna be a good long while still before they let Americans like me back in what with us being plaguemorons.

Coke tastes different in different countries, but Coke Zero tastes pretty much the same everywhere - at least from my sample size of four countries.

In Australia it's called Coke No Sugar because people couldn't tell by the loving name that it had zero sugar in it. It's also very similar to regular coke in taste.

I know Coke has a slightly different flavor depending on where you are in the world (I've had it in I wanna say eight countries?). Hell, even McDonald's reportedly has a slightly different mix. But every time I've tried Coke Zero it's tasted like complete dog poo poo and not like Coke at all.

I mean, if you're saying it tastes like Coke the way Pepsi also is nominally a cola, then sure. But in a pass a taste test way? No. I usually can't even get through a can of it.

Unrelated, but an interesting Coke ruling came out of Africa a few years ago. A country that bottled and exported it to even poorer countries ruled that its exported Coke couldn't be of a lower standard than what was sold in stores there.

So is this thread about different types of corrosive sugar water now because I feel obligated to remind everyone to care for their teeth, chugging that stuff down in the quantities you seem to be doing can't be good for you. Mineral water is a healthy alternative!

Does China do mineral water? I would think they have some weird local brand with a unique taste, kinda like Estonians have Värska and Georgians have Borjomi.
