Sweet. What happens if there are more injuries than extra players? Do we get to add a free agent?

I'm going to run a bunch of sims to see how that plays out. I've deleted every player in the database, so it will just be the guys we drafted for now. If that proves untenable my idea is to add something like 2F 1D 1G to every team's minor league.

If I go with the latter, feel free guys to just post who you would want your minor leaguers to be. If you don't post I'll just pick them as best I can. Basically you can choose any of the many really really good dudes (and girls) who didn't get drafted.

You have the winningest American head coach in NHL history, so why not bring in the guy who was nipping at his heels until he was fired because  Preds as a wingman? He's taken three teams to the SCF, winning with the Canes and losing with Philly and Nashville and is fairly consistently good at getting teams somewhat deep into the playoffs and that's good enough for me. I was surprised to find he didn't have a Jack Adams (he lost by 1 vote in 2006 to Lindy Ruff).

Lavi has experience with Ray Whitney, Justin Williams, and Mark Recchi. He also has fire, aimed at both players and officials, and we like that here

Curious how my head coach is also your assistant coach...

GOALIES

EXTRAS

Head Coach: Bryan Murray
Captain: Foote Alternate Captain: Forsberg Alternate Captain: Koivu

Overall very happy with my team. Didn't pick a gimmick but it played out to be a pretty punishing, frustrating team to play against that would be hard to knock off the puck. My top six uses the formula of uber-skilled playmaking center, dynamic scoring LW, and massive piece of poo poo pest-net-front-presence RW. My 3rd line is a shutdown-checking crew that can play conservatively against some of these all-time lineups and still put in goals. 4th line is a wildcard, energy, and speed line that could easily move up the depth chart. Kamensky can fill in as a good scoring winger anywhere in the lineup and Gratton is my power forward punchman that will fill in any bottom six roles if needed.

Zubov-Hamilton is a very exciting puckmoving first pair and my bottom four consists of an equal balance of offensively minded players paired with classic shutdown specialists. Went with two modern goalies who have a tendency to go on crazy unbeatable streaks.

Also ended up picking a lot of former Rangers who played their best years somewhere else....although that's generally unavoidable.

My extra-extras are 1. Kelly Kisio (86-90, NYR) - can't have too many skilled centers 2. Bobby Ryan (08-12, Ducks) - 30+ goals every season during that run 3. Bryan Berard (97-99 NYI) - His Calder years before the infamous eye injury and 4. Jacob Markstrom (15-present Canucks) - consistent, giant netkeeper

You're going to laugh, but Kris Russell from 2013-15 is a serviceable 8th defenseman on this team and once gave me a puck at the Shark Tank while hanging out by the tunnel during warmups for a CBJ/Sharks game, which he then autographed at the FanFest in Columbus a month later claiming he remembered the exchange. That type stuff makes you a fan of a player for life, no matter how obscure. I thought of making him a center until I built up that ridiculous center depth. If a couple of Matthews/Lecavalier/Tavares/Kuzy go down, we've got Brayden Point on the farm. (Had I known we'd get extra extras, I'd have taken he and Stewart first, then put Dubi and Gerbe in the minors.)

To go over: the theme of my team was men and women’s hockey being equal. I ended up with 14 women, 13 men. I do believe that women’s hockey is awesome and underrated , and that it is also hindered because they don’t get the resources and attention of men’s hockey. The next step forward for women’s hockey is a NHL all star game of mixed men’s and women’s team, which I do think will happen , and that is what I hope my team shows.

Most men’s players were chosen because they have some connection to women’s hockey :

-Pastrnak: not only did a national commercial with Coyne, but took a pay cut so they would be paid equally
-Oshie: went to Prom with Gigi Marvin
-P Kessel: brother of Amanda
-Ferraro: narrows Cammi Granato
-Schwartz: sister came back to play in college hockey after having cancer , then unfortunately passed. He wears 17 in her honor
-Dineen: coached women’s Team Canada to a gold medal
-Parayko: connected with a young girl who has a childhood illness, handed her the cup after winning it
-Scott: asked “what would your family think” when contemplating playing in an all star game while his wife was pregnant
-Ayres: his wife is great at Twitter

Anyway, there’s my team. Maybe I’ll add an assistant coach still , but overall it’s complete.

Cool theme, good work.

This is likely to take me some months, but I'll post updates of players here and there so you know I'm not dead or a coward.

Again, please note that the projections are...not entirely accurate.

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
So you mean Eddie Shore doesn't have a shot at the season PIM record?

Also, I'm sold. Fedorov is now the top line Center, Matthews goes to the wing.
