We all know about the Mandela effect, but what about the reverse? A thing you remember seeing, get convinced it's all in your head, and then see it again and realize it was real. As I kid remembered seeing a really weird cartoon about a short ugly guy who grows a handsome lump on his head and becomes very successful when he hides his face. I remember trying to look for this on the internet for years but could never find it. And since no one else I know remembers it, I became convinced I just imagined it and it was all in my head. But just recently, I found it. https://youtu.be/PiDDaeyoJGY I wasn't going crazy. In fact I found this even weirder animation in the process. https://youtu.be/sl8M6QGnVEo There are a few other things that I remember seeing, but don't know if they're all just in my head because no else I know remembers it. For example, there was a a gaming video I remember seeing several years back that I think was titled "video game autism" but I'm not sure. I think it was a heavily modded second life game in which all the characters looked like grotesque sonic type characters. There were turds falling the sky and one of the characters keeps throwing feces at a really ugly sonic character. The sonic character keeps saying "cut it out", "stop" through the voice chat but he still kept getting poo poo thrown at him. It seemed like the sonic player was trying to legitimately play the game, but the other character was griefing him and causing all this poo poo to fall everywhere. I thought it was a gaming garbage video but I couldn't find it on the channel. I'm pretty sure it's real but no one I know remembers it so it might be something I imagined. Edit: Found it. It's worse than I remember. https://youtu.be/imd-AF6lIO0 Another, even more obscure one, is an old cartoon I remember seeing as a very small child in the 80s but have not seen it since. The cartoon may be older than that and has that cheap Hannah Barbera tv animation style that was prominent in the 60s and 70s. It stars an anthropomorphic rabbit and this short guy with derby hat (and no it's not Roger Rabbit). They're driving a tiny car through really windy hilly roads. I remember the guy with the hat says "call me fussy" at one point and my child brain thought that was really funny for some reason. It may have been a Dr. Seuss cartoon because it had a really weird surreal style but no one else remembers it and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I saw a weird animal that looked kind of like a squirrel but it was massive. Like easily 4ft tall or something. I tried telling my mom and my grandparents etc about it and no one believed it. I know I saw it though. Later I wondered if it was just a really massive rabbit, but I don't think so.

O Canada showcased cartoons from the National Filmboard of Canada. They tended to be really weird and surreal. Especially the Richard Condie cartoons. https://youtu.be/3UaNB-ruHpQ https://youtu.be/LxmCO_L_CC8 https://youtu.be/FJl_4IsQJ2g https://youtu.be/f389hIxZAOc https://youtu.be/p1S5pAF1YYA https://youtu.be/C6KDz8MIgmM

Related, I saw the Cordell Barker version of "The Cat Came Back" as a kid once then never again, a few years later we went over the poem and a very operatic recording of it in probably third or fourth grade, but it was different than what I remembered. When I started talking about the cartoon everyone took it for some uncle that works for Nintendo bullshit. Every now and again over the years it'd pop in to my head and drove me nuts. Finally when I took traditional animation in college the teacher throw on a collection of NFB shorts and sure as poo poo there it was.

Continuity of some kind of a being is just an illusion caused by your memories.

Since around the age of six I remembered an animated giant anthropomorphic jukebox dancing to Martha Reeves & the Vandellas "Dancing in the Street." For decades, DECADES I asked around the four corners of the Internet to see if anyone knew what I was talking about, but not a single soul did. I was beginning to think I was high on cough syrup at the time and it never existed. A few years back, I randomly came across some dude who had uploaded Kidd Video episodes. I was on a nostalgia kick since I hadn't seen it in over 30 years, and the very first episode I clicked on, there it loving was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGLguTHcZBY (Jukebox begins at 1:47) This show was a trip fueled by mountain ranges of cocaine.

It took me years, but there used to be a late night show called Night Flight that was a mix of music videos and bizarre movie clips. It aired on our local station that decades later became our local CW station after this monster truck show each Saturday at 1am. For the longest time, nobody I spoke to in person knew what the hell I was talking about. I finally found someone on a newsgroup in like '94 that knew about it. I've made mention of it a few times on SA and a few remember seeing it, but from about 88-94 I thought I had imagined it.

It's probably more popular than I realize since I'm an American but my extremely Canadian parents used to religiously put on VHS tapes for me of Telefrancais. Not long after YouTube came into existence, I was able to find the cartoon again. I've posted about it in the white whale thread, but here's one I've never been able to catch again. Y'all have seen the box art for the SNES Phalanx game, right? The one with the old guy and banjo? There was a commercial for that game, featuring the old man with simple banjo music playing over game footage. The internet doesn't seem to have the ad and I've never spotted anyone else who remembers it existed.

When I was a very young child I remembered watching a cartoon about a post apocalyptic earth where mankind had killed itself off. The oldest of the animals had all the others gather around him as he told the story of how we destroyed ourselves. One of the final scenes is of the last two men on earth shooting and killing each other. What made it stand out as a child was the quality of the animation, and the age of the cartoon. For years everyone I asked had no idea what I was talking about, even my mother had no clue. Fast forward to the internet age, and I was shocked to learn that not only wasn't this some obscure piece of lost media, the cartoon may have been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. The cartoon was called Peace on Earth, and this is the scene that was forever burned into my young brain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN97JmVTzVM
