Vince McMahon is an irredeemable flim-flam man who has made his fortune with bigotry, deception and the destruction of many powerful bodies. However, it is some Great Man of History nonsense to pretend that the WWF exists purely by his efforts alone. In this thread we share, discuss and appreciate the fine work many people have done while employed by this terrible, terrible company. My favourite WWF match is Mankind vs. Shawn Michaels, In Your House: Mind Games  The execution is crisp, its full of weirdo little touches and I don't believe there is a single near-fall. The finish is a bit dodge but that is really picking at nits. I don't keep up with it any more so any suggestions of Stuff Which Is Good From Recent are appreciated.

My favourite WWF match is Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Bret Hart, Wrestlemania 13 I think everyone knows everything about this match already, and there's a good reason for that! It's really good! You've got probably the two most solid workers in the company, both of whom have oodles of charisma in their own ways, who both loved working with each other, and who've spent months building the feud. It's hard hitting, violent, superbly paced*, and has one of the most memorable and replayed finishes WWF ever did. It's awesome. *I actually have zero idea how long this match goes, and probably couldn't guess accurate to 5 minutes, even though I've seen it a bunch of times. Time stands still while these two brawl.

Wrestlemania 30. Specifically the first and last matches (with Daniel Bryan) It's a great story where they actually do the thing. And it feels great, even if you don't have to context of being frustrated at WWE failing to notice how over Daniel Bryan was, they bring you up to speed with the pre-match reel. I'd even include the 'Taker match as something to give you a dramatic low instead of watching both high points one after another. Edit: I realize now you may have been asking for "WWF" era-specific? WWE's obsession with legitimate celebrity is a problem but it's all because the original one, The Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection worked so well. Its mind boggling how trash WWE has gotten in the past 5 (10? 20?) years but I've been watching since the 80s and one of my favorite top 10 matches in the WWF is still The Rockers vs Orient Express, Royal Rumble '91. The poo poo they do from the pace of the match to the Rockers bumping like crazy makes it seem like it's something out of AJPW, not WWF.

I think my favorite match is Daniel Bryan beating Triple H at Mania 30. It was the perfect culmination of Bryan's feud with Trips, and set up (another great!) match in the main event.

As much as I advocated his early release from the GOAT thread (come back Rarity) young Brock Lesnar was an utter joy to watch. Triple power bombs, throwing Big Show around like a sack of grain, 90% of a shooting star press. Just wonderful. Even if his first match back against Cena he was amazing and showed that he had an almost unparalleled gift for non-verbal communication and in-ring showmanship. Also; for all the talk about how WWE dropped the ball on The Big Show as a monster heel I have to disagree. Big Show is way too charismatic to be stuck in that role. At times he's felt like the most likable face in the company. I mean he's parlayed that charisma and likability into a cheesy netflix sitcom and was the most amusing part of the WWE SNL. Ironically Show could have been Cena if he was a little smaller and had a big match gear. (I still say Big Show was a screaming bore in the ring though).

I think we’ll look back on NXT’s recent run as an all-timer. From just shortly before the first Takeover until they went to TV was a hell of a five year run, and contained some of the best poo poo wwe ever did.

When I think of recent WWE stuff I like, it's rarely matches. It's more about the bizarre little side projects and ancillary programming. The first season of Total Divas, Talking Smack, Fashion Police, etc. But my favourite, and it pains me to say it because it stars one of the most disgusting people in the company, is the JBL and Cole Show. Wrestlemania 8's Roddy Piper v Bret Hart for the Intercontinental championship is one of my personal favorite matches. Everything about it was just masterclass from the build to the opening promo to the match. By far one of Roddy's greatest promos ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwGuZYybQow To the rare example of a face v face match being really drat good, with Roddy constantly struggling not to turn heel on someone who's basically family and Bret trying to resist the temptation to go all out on Roddy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbo7PNqlfa0 Roddy needs the title to stay in the main event picture and get a shot at bigger belts, Bret needs the title to recapture his place and reclaim the belt he believes he elevated to importance. Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon really selling the match is also a big plus. A really overlooked gem from two guys who had bigger spots but really took their time crafting this one.

Watching Becky’s rise to the top women’s star maybe of all time has been a joy for me, and I have no issues with it at all. It’s been fun in general to follow the careers of the women and to have them finally be given a real chance at having the kind of matches they potentially always could have had. Charlotte, Becky, Bayley, Asuka, and Naomi have been some of my favorites, I think NXT women were hitting a new level before this drat virus, they had the best WWE war games match ever in my opinion. Io, Rhea, and Candice were really getting there and I hope they’ll be able to keep the momentum going when the world comes back. I wept like a baby when Daniel Bryan had to retire, then again in joy when he came back and every match he has is like a gift now. My favorite of all time and to be able to see his amazing career in real time has been one of the best times in my life. John Cena’s career post Mania 29 was also really fun, to see him go from oversaturated to putting on consistently the best match of the night with guys like Bryan, AJ, Seth, etc and everyone in his open challenge was awesome. He completely rehabbed the US title, and while it has lost a little luster it’s still a fine championship with a rich history. Andrade is a great wrestler and worthy champion. Roman Reigns gets a lot of flak but always delivers in a big match and the Shield was awesome, their feuds with the wyatt’s, team hell no, and evolution were all time, and to be able to see those three’s total careers has been a weird and fun journey. and the WWE network is one of the coolest and most expansive libraries around. I watch it all the time and learn something new, did you know there’s an 8 hour new years WCW party on there featuring Tony Schiavone getting progressively more annoyed at Heenan and Gene? There’s just a ton of weird, forgotten stuff and to be able to access all that and not have to pay so much for the monthly PPVs has been the best thing for a fan of wrestling since forever. I watch something new to me on the network at least weekly as a subscriber since day 1. The WWE has brought a lot of happiness to my life where there can sometimes be a lot of pain and sadness, I can’t wait until this awful virus gives me back the chance to go see it live again, I’ve seen everything from the television to ppv, to NXT live and never had a bad time even in the nosebleeds.

I'd actually say my favourite period of NXT is actually before that run, from the launch to maybe the second Takeover, or even until they started taking Takeovers to big arenas. It just had such a different feel, it was absolutely a developmental territory and people did weird and fun things and it was always booked so smart. The way they responded to Bo Dallas not getting over as a face and just made him a heel who didn't realise he wasn't liked, with his Bo-lievers. Stuff like Emma and how she got over. It was incredibly organic. And yeah, there were legit great wrestlers too, Adrian Neville for example, Sami Zayn. The Ascension were killers. Ultimately it kind of failed as a developmental because someone failed to realise that getting over in front of the same 300 fans every week doesn't mean you'll instantly be over on the main roster, but that's a fault of the main roster and the people involved there. That's my fave WWE of recent years, definitely over WWE-does-PWG era NXT.

CM Punk vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania 29 was the most fun I've ever had at a wrestling match. Pretty dull show otherwise (and incredibly cold), but that crowd. They were solidly 50/50 between Taker and Punk, right up until Taker went "gently caress you" to the Anaconda Vice. Then Metlife just blew the ever loving gently caress up for Taker. It was incredible
