I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Punk is p good, 70s 80s heck even 90s and 2000s punk.

I like hardcore early 80s punk probably the most but anything loud and fast is good in my opinion. I enjoyed NOFX's First Ditch Effort album that came out a few years ago but The Circlejerks or Black Flag or Misfits or TSOL Cro-Mags MDC Germs idk the list is basically endless are all excellent and classic. Green Day and Offspring both have their places but also there was a lot of lesser known stuff in the 90s like Nerve Agents, AFI, or even Mars Volta that rocked and still rocks p hard.

In conclusion, punk is a mindset not specifically an era or style and I appreciate all of it

But I see through the bullshit
I see through the bullshit
You're not helpless
You can stand on your own two feet
So why do you let yourself be treated like a loving piece of meat
You call it life, I call it rape, I call it prostitution
I don't know why you hate yourself
Cause you're not ugly at all

So let the sunshine in
And chase away your blues
Cause smilers never lose and frowners never win
So let the sunshine in
I know it's loving hard
But now it's time to try to start
To let the sunshine in

So when you feel hosed up
Your life is in the gutter
Think about it for a minute
It's what you say that matters
Don't call it life, just call it rape, just call it prostitution
And you won't have to hate yourself
Cause you know you're a beautiful person

The Clash - Complete Control

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kluV2ieirr4

Edit the actual lyrics are quite good too

The Clash posted:

They said release 'Remote Control'
But we didn't want it on the label
They said, "Fly to Amsterdam"
The people laughed but the press went mad

Ooh ooh ooh someone's really smart
Ooh ooh ooh complete control, that's a laugh

On the last tour my mates couldn't get in
I'd open up the back door but they'd get run out again
At every hotel we was met by the Law
Come for the party - come to make sure!

Ooh ooh ooh have we done something wrong?
Ooh ooh ooh complete control, even over this song

They said we'd be artistically free
When we signed that bit of paper
They meant let's make a lotsa mon-ee
An' worry about it later

Ooh ooh ooh I'll never understand
Ooh ooh ooh complete control - lemme see your other hand!

All over the news spread fast
They're dirty, they're filthy
They ain't gonna last!

This is Joe Public speaking
I'm controlled in the body, controlled in the mind

Total
See-o-n control - that means you!

I'd describe early Elvis Costello as punk-adjacent new wave, kind of like early Blondie. I love both. Chelsea is probably my favorite Elvis Costello song:

Too bad he kept making GBS threads out increasingly uninteresting albums in his later career

Yeah he'll come up with something interesting every now and then but his old stuff is where its at. When I saw him live he mostly did old stuff so that was cool. His longevity is pretty impressive if nothing else.
As a bonus since the live show was in Knoxville TN he played this song called "knoxville girl"

trust me, I'm a cat.

I never was a big fan of punk music, but I have some of my favourites from high school years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRlNfX3P5_4

Siekiera ("Axe") was a phenomenon like no other in Poland. Their original material was simple, but brutal, with off-the wall lyrics. Later (1986) they morphed into a post-punk band with much different sound, but their original stuff is incredible.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGkXKu6YUsQ

Their only music video, from the period when they were going more into new wave, broadcasted just once, and then immediately banned by censorship office.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzl7IsRQghM

Quo Vadis was also one of the old bands I got into, they also later changed drastically their sound. But the first material is pure PRL-laden punk, like with this anti-draft song.

The only band that I listened to that was contemporary to the times is Hercklekot, a Silesian punk/digital hardcore outfit, they released some real bangers and the lyrics were quite a food for my politically developing brain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUNJxhwtE8Y

The fact that they were releasing their whole albums for free to download (and you can still get them, like I did back then!), was also helping. Trivia: when you Google this band, the very first picture that shows in the results if one of the members stretching his... well, member :nws:

I guess as a Pole I should post songs of Dezerter, KSU, Kolaboranci or other outfits, but as I said before, wasn't much of a punk fan...

Bad Religion concerts are amazing because Greg Gaffin just...lectures. His stage presence is very unique.

Hot Water Music owns too, so do the Menzigers. The Bronx is good but slightly on the "too hard" side for my old brittle bones.

There's a bunch of stuff out of Toronto/GTA which is just killing these days. Creepshow, Maysides, Penske File, PUP, PkewPkewPkew, the Anti-Queens...

gently caress I love punk. Spent waayy too much of my life going to local shows back in the day and even had my own trainwreck of a hardcore punk band when I was younger. Also have a funny story about trying out for Fang a couple years ago. Die Kreuzen is amazing. Other than that Dead Kennedys, Batallion of Saints, Dr. Know, Adolescents, DRI, Fang, and Agent Orange are some of my favorite brands.

Over time I've gotten incredibly into folk punk. The new Days n Daze album is smazing.
