I bought my sister "The Compete Far Side" hard cover books, the letters to Larson were funnier than the cartoons even though he had a very high strike rate for quality, especially for a single panel cartoonist - I think only him and Watterson (Calvin and Hobbs) were consistently good throughout their careers. Although newspaper cartoons are usually awful. My IT teacher had all the cartoons printed out on overhead projector sheets and would show one at the beginning of each lesson, this mammoth one was his favourite. Humour is expected to be edgier now but if farmer brown dooms earth because he shakes the alien leader by the head in a genuine misunderstanding then more please.
