There's multiple IRA type groups that have gone mostly quiet since the violence, but several of them are IN government (much like the IRA actually). Of course that kinda depends. Most of those groups were/are sectarian. And as of right now this is a thankfully non-sectarian event, and non-sectarian anger from it. Of course the revolution in Syria started non-sectarian too...

I'd say it's good because I mean, yeah, clearly the powers that be have lost all faith from the population. It also maybe speaks well for the state of Lebanon's really shaky half-formed democracy credentials. We don't have any rear end in a top hat strongmen trying to cling to power or anything. That of course doesn't remove the other huge gaping problems facing the country right now. But if the government was just like "SHUT UP WE DID THE BEST WE COULD, STOP PROTESTING OR BULLETS" like I can't see the country moving forward well with that situation.

What does "replacing the government" entail? The people at the top, yeah. But what about the 25 layers of bureaucracy underneath them, who are very accustomed to skimming and getting their beaks wet? It would need to be like the Reconstruction-era southern US. EVERYBODY goes, from government officials to business owners. And because of that, recovery will take decades.
