to be less snippy (,$orry lol) I would agree a lot of the subject matter in rap is inherently political but explicit soapboxing like Kendrick is pretty rare and the stuff that grabs people grabs people musically or through emotional reaction to lyrics rather than "message" reaction most of the time (and that comes back to delivery a lot which I'd call being good musically)
