I paid minimal attention to the Lions this offseason, and might not even watch them this fall, but I'm like 90% sure Martha Ford will give Patricia another free roll due to pandemic chaos unless he goes 0-fer.

I want to see the graph of % of people who bought into "the Lions are a dark horse team this year" as a function of the number of Lions games they actually watched. It's a right triangle at best.

Honestly unless Quinn is also on his way out I'm not getting my hopes up. I just don't trust him to not go back to the Belichek tree for Patricia's hypothetical replacement.

VV I thought that was the case, but the reassurance is nice.

I don't even know who I'd want to be the next coach or GM, just gut this franchise from the ownership down and start over expansion team-style.

Is Lions ownership entirely absentee? Do they just whiff bad on a GM hire, let it sit until fan revolt, then clean house to make another bad decision?

I think there is a genuine desire among the Ford family to field a winning team, at least in recent years. Not sure what I'm basing that one other than their name being tied to the city going back a century (and on the drat stadium!). The problem is that they have no loving idea what they're doing and it shows.

If Neodoomium still posted here he'd tell you how the Ford family bought the Lions in the 60s and gave it to William Clay Ford (grandson of Henry, owner until his passing a few years ago) to keep him distracted so that he wouldn't gently caress up the motor company. I still remember his son Bill Jr going on local news a month into the 2008 season and saying "Matt Millen sucks and my dad sucks for not firing him four years ago". They've been the laughingstock of the league the entire team the Ford family has owned them, and that probably wears on you after a while. Then again bad sports teams still make money

Harbaugh feels like a logical, perhaps even reasonable, choice on paper. But he's going to be despised by a large chunk of the fanbase from the get-go and that feels like a huge misstep for a team that desperately needs to rebuild some goodwill towards itself. How quickly are people going to call for his head after 1.5 seasons with a crap roster?

I will admit to thinking that McDaniels deserved a second shot somewhere right after leaving Denver, albeit solely as HC rather than HC + GM. But I feel like Patricia had a lot of that same McDaniels energy in dealing with the team so no thank you.

I wouldn't say poo poo, more like "a huge letdown".

I said it on the previous page but Harbaugh feels like a pick that all of the ESPN talking heads would say is solid and would talk about what a great opportunity it is for Detroit, but it would be hated by a large part of the fanbase pretty much from day 1. Have to imagine that a majority of Lions fans are also Michigan or Michigan State fans (because who the gently caress grew up outside of Michigan and likes the Lions?) and they all hate him for various reasons. It would be a disaster for a team with currently zero goodwill.

How has Harbaugh been a disappointment at Michigan? I don’t follow college much but in SF he was a winning coach and loved by his players. Seems like a Michigan fans would like him?

They're merely good when people were expecting and promised greatness based on the hype around getting him in the first place. Namely, zero wins against Ohio State, only one apiece vs Michigan State and Notre Dame, and no(?) bowl wins. This from one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.

Like I said, he would be a fine hire for Detroit on paper but he would be loathed by a large part of the fanbase from the get-go, and that's probably an own-goal worth avoiding.

E: we're veering away from NFL chat, but I think Harbaugh had the same or very close to the same record after three years with Michigan as Brady Hoke did lmao

This, qb prospect, no matter how lauded, is such a crapshoot. Lawrence could be the next Ryan leaf and that'd be on the new GM despite the fact that everyone knows you're gonna take Lawrence and basically have to.

Chargers then Houston would be my 1 and 2 since they have the hardest positions locked up. Then jets, jags, and falcons last. I only put jets above jags because I'm gonna bank most of the problems being on gase and not the talent, so if you can get a good coach there they should be OK. Jags have just... nothing there, while the falcons need to be completely burned to the ground for a season before the rebuild can even start in earnest.
