When my hometown had a Hardee's they would sell hamburgers for 29 cents after 2PM until close. If you went through the drive-thru 30 minutes before close you could get a "grab bag" for $5 that was filled with leftovers.

In the 90's I remember Hardees doing that deal. I think it was on Tuesdays, used to bring a 5 dollar bill and have s for days. That's when I learned not to put tinfoil in the microwave. I did see a weirdo in his 20's, I think, at a McDonalds once try to get the senior deal on coffee, when the cashier and then the manager refused it he turned around and must have met eye contact with me because he asked me for some change so he could buy a regular coffee. I said no as he was annoying everyone around him.

a mcdonalds near me was selling 29 cent hamburgers on Tuesdays, and 39 cent cheeseburgers on sundays. we went out both days and got 10 of each. As a kid I was psyched for mcdonalds (but sad that my mom wouldn't ever buy me nuggets), but I later realized we were broke as gently caress and getting 20 meals for $7 was the only way we'd stretch the budget to have enough food for the week

In college I had a meal plan that gave me 14 meals per week worth 4.75 apiece at the fast-food joints on campus. These meals did not roll over at the end of the week, so every Thursday night or whatever I'd go down to the campus taco bell and cash out whatever was left in $.79 soft tacos. Once I hadn't eaten campus food all week, so I spent the whole lot on tacos. It was too many tacos to eat or even give away so we ended up having a drunken food fight w/ them in the middle of the night in some unlocked classroom. There was a bounty on my head for this but thankfully nobody thought to consider the guy who screwed up the whole flow of the cafeteria at dinner time once a week week by ordering dozens of tacos at once.

Perhaps the soft taco food fight should be the staple of our protest against the Bell, but instead of in a classroom, inside the Bell itself.

Big ole deli slicer, bun toaster, and small refrigerated make table with sandwich supplies. The roast beef came in ten pound bags that you cooked them in, was a bright pink and liquid and turned into a roast magically over four hours. If ya hosed up prepping enough you had to quick cook it at half time and then fry it for a bit to finish it up. Fried magic roast beef paste was great and a rare treat. This was over a decade ago of course. Ive no idea whats it like now.

At some point there was a McD's promo with 2 for $2 Big Macs. The only reason I remember is because while I'd never had a Big Mac before, that seemed like too good a price to pass up. This had to have been late 90s or even mid 90s and I distinctly remember it's when they used to put the paper sleeve around the sandwich in whatever packaging it was in at the time. I know it was post-styrofoam, but it definitely was before the paper boxes they use now. I think it was paper sleeve around the sandwich and then the sandwich was wrapped in a tan paper? idk that's the earliest fast food deal I can remember

Carls Jr as alocal promotion had large sodas for $0.69 during the summer so it was cheaper to get a soda there than Circle K. You could get a cheeseburger and spicy chicken and large soda for like 3.12 with tax and there were times I was incredibly broke that I had that as a meal a couple times a week.

Taco Bell's 59/79/99 menu, you could get a bunch of stuff for under $5 Wendy's 99c junior bacon cheeseburger, Wendy's may still have something like this on the 99c menu but it's a pathetic miniature version I don't see much discussion of Checkers but it seems like the food was so cheap it may as well have been free

It's not literally £1 for everything which in any case would be about $1.30, but you can get a cheeseburger for 99p or w/e if you hate yourself. It's going to depend where you are because lol no McDonalds is not 'aspiring middle class' food in the UK or Germany or whatever where they've been cheap fast food for decades compared to, I dunno, post-Cold-War Russia. Bear in mind over here there's a 20% sales tax on hot fast food, though.
