The subtext to what hes saying is that western culture is the wellspring of all knowledge and thought thats worth a drat.

He grazes against it when he says that its the first book (as far as western culture is concerned), as if eastern cultures hadnt aggregated texts, and if they did who cares.

But if you test him on that, he "never said that". Although it feeds his base's notions of white christian supremacy. Its the same loving grift.

Because most people have been trained to believe that "Sounds like the turbo encabulator speech" = smart and figure, "Well, of course it doesn't make total sense to me, he's smarter than I am!"

And also because vague nonsense lets you unthinkingly come to the conclusion you wanted in the first place, so it's very comfortable.

It's homeopathy for content.

but mister p-son says being concise is a virtue so he is being as concise as he can, thus all 4 hours are extremely worthwhile content that could NOT be scaled back or condensed

“And that’s a huge problem when you’re trying to model over 100 years because the errors compound just like interest.”
- J Petes, weather smarty

But... interest doesn't compound. Compound interest compounds. Also, compound interest is entirely calculatable. He literally used the phrase "the errors compound" and his brain said, Heyyyy, that's a word used with "interest" sometimes, and he just went with it.

Edit; Yeah, that's super pedantic, but I'm bored I guess.

How anyone could watch more than 59 seconds of that, let alone minutes, is a loving achievement.

Every time I have seen anything with either one of these guys involved, I'm stunned and horrified by their popularity and success. They're both just the stupidest pair of morons who seem to have unending hordes of disciples, fully believing that they're intellectual titans who make good points, and it depresses me no end.

I don't remember where I heard it, but it was along the lines of: "Sometimes I wonder if I'm actually depressed, or if I've just accurately appraised my surroundings and am unhappy as a result."

I think about that a lot. How you don't need a chemical imbalance of some kind to feel depressed with the current state of affairs. Can't say that more than two years of covid has helped fight that notion.
(I do fully acknowledge that depression is real as I've suffered from it. I'm just also completely open to the idea that it's not always a brain problem, and in fact I suspect that situational depression must be more and more common)

Jordan Peterson after sneaking a few 'bars' and given a public speaking platform: *Half a decade of trying to corrupt male youth around the world into believing pronoun usage is an attack on personal liberty*

I've never really been around people who are addicted to (or recreationally use) pain killers and anti-depressant/anxiety meds, but does it affect people the way alcohol does? Like, you have the happy, friendly drunk who wants to tell everyone he loves them and tries to talk any topic for hours, but then you have the scary, violent, angry drunk who stews in jealousy and misery until finding some way to lash out, etc. Is Peterson's addiction what gives him the "courage" to speak out on all these topics without a filter, despite having little understanding about any of it, and what drives his internal rage towards perceived attacks on his imaginary boundaries? Would that be why when he got off the pills, he disappeared and had nothing to really say or do, but now suddenly he's back on his bullshit and appears to be on pills again? Are benzos all that's preventing the world from living Peterson-free? I can't help but be reminded of people I know who are seemingly mild-mannered in everyday life but turn into horrendous monsters the second they start drinking, and I wonder if there's a correlation between Peterson spending 20 hours a day in an altered state of mind and always having some bullshit to say any chance given to him.

JP completely sounds like a guy that a dumb person thinks is smart. He just uses lots of words and long sentences, not even big/complicated words, and he repeats himself over and over and an idiot would think that sounds smart.

I can totally see how morons would look up to this guy. It's truly amazing. He says words but there's not much substance once you distill his incoherent rambling into the actual point he is trying to make.

Amazing.

That clip about the Bible Museum annoys me to no end. Apart from the already stated obvious points about the problematic idea of the Bible being the "first" book in the "west" (I get the sense that if you were to challenge him on any of those claims he'd just bog you down in stupid semantics about the nature of books and the west etc.) there's the fact that the Bible Museum is funded by evangelical scumbags who steal ancient artifacts.

Has anyone ever actually defined what "the west" is? They act like everything from ancient Greece to modern America is 'the West' even when a lot of the cultures under the umbrella of "Western" have nothing in common. Like, I know what they are actually getting at while desperately trying not to admit it, they mean whiteness, but have they ever developed a non-racist definition?

And something tells me Jorpy is defining "first book" as specifically a stack of papers connected by a spine or something equally tiresome.

'the west' like whiteness itself is defined by exclusion - there is no rule for determining what is west only what is "obviously" not a part of it.
