if you have a poem you would like to be read, put it in here (except the ones that i already read elsewhere, of which, there are some) technically, anybody may do a reading of any poem. recently i been jammin to mary oliver and a buncha haiku from the ol' classics if you would have never read a poem for a recital or recording and would like a suggestion, here is a thing i recommend: https://www.loc.gov/programs/poetry-and-literature/poet-laureate/poet-laureate-projects/poetry-180/how-to-read-a-poem-out-loud/ if you would like some inspiration for a poem to read, here is a reading of mary oliver's "Wild Geese": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv_4xmh_WtE i shall post a poem and a recording as soon as i find one, which is right...now |

Old Man Platypus, by Banjo Paterson Far from the trouble and toil of town, Where the reed beds sweep and shiver, Look at a fragment of velvet brown, Old Man Platypus drifting down, Drifting along the river. And he plays and dives in the river bends In a style that is most elusive; With few relations and fewer friends, For Old Man Platypus descends From a family most exclusive. He shares his burrow beneath the bank With his wife and his son and daughter At the roots of the reeds and the grasses rank; And the bubbles show where our hero sank To its entrance under water. Safe in their burrow below the falls They live in a world of wonder, Where no one visits and no one calls, They sleep like little brown billiard balls With their beaks tucked neatly under. And he talks in a deep unfriendly growl As he goes on his journey lonely; For he's no relation to fish nor fowl, Nor to bird nor beast, nor to horned owl; In fact, he's the one and only!

Skateboarding, by Peter Davis I skate for me and my homeboys! We grind and carve! Let’s skate! We yell that poo poo, Tina. We loving yell it! We’re behind the grocery store, Tina, shredding this curb and John Law comes up and is like Scram! Fuckers! So lame! And I’m adjusting my beret. And Tina, my skate Betty, I know you love me, but I can’t even explain how much I will skate or die! |

stacked golden pyramids and a few sips of beer three minutes later what's that? i can't hear. lost in the mindscape. but i got no fear never forget my homeboy's right here. few hours later punch through with a grin now i'm ready for the fun to begin zebra-striped sky all purple & green one giant eye and all that it's seen egg in the sky not just a moon the queen keeps it warm it'll hatch sometime soon sharing our memories of friends since long past their ghosts keep us warm but nothing can last night draws to a close but the drugs soldier on can't seem to care what planet i'm on now one to one sharing thoughts with a grin where does man end and chair truly begin? |

https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/42541/conversation-56d2211ab459b We smile at each other and I lean back against the wicker couch. How does it feel to be dead? I say. You touch my knees with your blue fingers. And when you open your mouth, a ball of yellow light falls to the floor and burns a hole through it. Don’t tell me, I say. I don't want to hear. Did you ever, you start, wear a certain kind of silk dress and just by accident, so inconsequential you barely notice it, your fingers graze that dress and you hear the sound of a knife cutting paper, you see it too and you realize how that image is simply the extension of another image, that your own life is a chain of words that one day will snap. Words, you say, young girls in a circle, holding hands, and beginning to rise heavenward in their confirmation dresses, like white helium balloons, the wreaths of flowers on their heads spinning, and above all that, that’s where I’m floating, and that’s what it’s like only ten times clearer, ten times more horrible. Could anyone alive survive it? (the image of the wreaths spinning over the head is seriously, oh my goodness. profound) crimes |

My Brothers Have Not Read “Little Women” Scarlett Curtis We sailed to Treasure Island, Became Lord of the Flies, We saw ourselves in Holden C, Damaged, sad and wise. We gave our time to Oliver, Our hearts to Spider-man. Followed Charlie to the factory, Took flight with Peter Pan. Your words are universal. Your characters are true. Your stories transcend gender, But women write books too. |
