Holy poo poo this game is amazing and pretty much everything I wanted.

Also quite impressed that the game defaulted to ultra/high settings with rtx on at 1080p. Specs are Ryzen 7 3700X, 16gb RAM, Geforce 2070 RTX Super. Seems to hold up at a pretty solid 40-60fps average which is fine with me.
It also chose Ultra for my 1070 and ivy bridge CPU so...

What difficulty are y'all playing this on? I started on hard because of course, but combat is pretty frustrating, the enemies are spongy and are constantly setting me on fire when I can't even see them. Dying constantly (the 25 fps don't help of course)

After updating the drivers and overclocking my 1070 to the limit, I'm getting about 30fps at 1440p on High. I have to drop down to low or 1080p to get a solid 40. I haven't really done a proper A/B comparison but it seems there's very little difference between Ultra, High and even Medium (in terms of visuals or performance), while Low looks like rear end so I avoid it.

I think someone posted they're getting 40-50fps on a 1070 so I'm curious how that's possible outside of running it at complete potato quality. That was before the patch was out even, though I'm curious if it would help at all.

The way other characters interact with you and the environment when you're talking and getting missions, as well as on missions is so good. I think that for me adds the most immersion to this game over other open world games of its ilk like Fallout and Outer Worlds where the whole interaction you're fixed, staring at their face while they awkwardly talk back while hardly moving.

Also the driving in this game absolutely rules, feels like the cars have actual weight and physics to them. The only reason why driving is annoying is because of the dumb mini map. Saying that I've been using a controller for driving, lol at anyone using mouse and keyboard for that.
Yeah agreed on the first point, it's really nicely done.

I don't think you'll be able to convince me that driving doesn't suck. Maybe it's supposed to represent 80s car handling? But even those weren't that bad.

I had no expectations going into this so I'm pretty happy. That said some stuff that sucks:
  • Biggest immersion break when after the epilogue, one of the objectives is to eat something. You go out and downstairs, there's like a dozen of fast food stalls and you can't buy anything. Even at the place you had lunch with Jackie in a scripted sequence.
  • Zombie NPCs were already mentioned. It's really weak considering what we've seen not only in GTA5, but also in Saints Row like 12 years ago. I'm running around naked and nobody reacts here, but in SR2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=101kMM45ALc
  • Enemy AI is pretty poo poo. I played the hotel in stealth mode and most enemies just stand there. Just perfectly still in the middle of a corridor. If there's a firefight, they're pretty bad at mounting a coordinated attack. I don't know to what degree FEAR was scripted, but it felt like they behaved very reasonably in a dynamic environment.
  • After the epilogue you get bombarded with phone calls and messages, and I now have like 25 side jobs. Really weird they decided to drop it like that instead of gradually introducing more stuff.

But the story and especially the graphics/atmosphere are spot on so it's pretty enjoyable despite of that stuff.

For me on a GTX 1070, there's very little difference between Ultra and Medium but Low speeds things up significantly.

Maybe it's a CPU bottleneck? Have you tried that hex fix? Although that's kind of strange anyway because I can push over 60 fps on a 3470 if I drop the resolution enough.

You can also have homosexual relations with several characters in the game. Overall the world is of course disgusting, but I think showing that dystopia is kind of the point.

I can see how you'd mistake it for GTA based on the marketing, but once you see how the game portrays interactions with the police and how the story works, why would it make sense for them to have spent time adding fun game mechanics around things the game is trying to penalise you for and discourage you from doing? Just because you can mistake this game for GTA at first glance doesn't mean you should jump in with both feet and say the ways in which they are different are flaws.
Of course it wouldn't make sense to clone GTA here, I think the issue is that they just ended up with a clumsy half-baked result. Just say you can't drive cars because only rich people can afford them, like in Singapore or something. So you use fast travel or ride passenger, bam, problem solved.

I have now completely broken the game's crafting system over my knee. Once you can craft legendary items it becomes absurdly easy. If you have the recipe for the Panacea mod, a legendary clothing mod that provides immunity to poison and shock, the math works as follows:

Cost:

3 Rare Item Components
1 Legendary Item Component

Disassembly Value:

4 Common Item Components
3 Uncommon Item Components
3 Rare Item Componentst
3 Rare Upgrade Components
1 Epic Item Component
1 Epic Upgrade Component
1 Legendary Item Component
3 (!) Legendary Upgrade Components

Now, it's already pretty clear that you can just assemble and disassemble these until you have tons of everything but the legendary item component, right? It's still such that if you put one legendary item component in you get one out. Not so fast.

20% of the time you craft one, you get a free one. This scales rapidly.
Lol. I'm so loving bad at crafting. I basically only upgraded a few guns and I'm now worried I'll finish the game before I actually get/make any decent guns. I'm doing a few side missions now so I guess that's the chance to grind some points crafting skills there.
