So one criticism was cool stuff (NPCs, street food vendors etc.) are all decorations and you can't interact with them meaningfully. I don't have a problem with that personally, but is anyone going to make (or making) a game that does things a little different? Like a much smaller map but almost everything can be interacted with? Every restaurant can be patronized.. movie theater watched.. street vendor talked to? Not every game needs to be super huge and expansive right? Maybe the super fast SSD approach of PS5 is the future, where you quickly go through a toll and that is the brief loading screen into a new area of full interactivity?

I'm one of the crazy Gerstmanns of the world who never really got into The Witcher because of this. Not only is Geralt extremely competent and right about everything, but he's constantly surrounded by racist, muck-covered peasants who we are coded to despise and exist solely to make him look even cooler and more competent. Piloting Geralt through some situation that he's certain to succeed at because he studied both partying and the blade in high school just doesn't satisfy me, as he doesn't seem to be overmatched or made to look silly very often, and the supposed disadvantage of everyone spitting at Geralt and trying to beat him up outside the tavern holds no weight if it's levied by toothless morons who you can easily slaughter anyway. Maybe it's just personal preference, but I'd much rather play as Guybrush Threepwood scraping out of situations that are way out of his league by being both stupid and clever at the same time than the Man from Smug Island who fucks everything that moves and has two entire swords

My point in all this being is that, while people don't levy the same accusation at competent male characters as much, it very much can kill my interest in them

what the hell

Geralt is constantly getting owned and is wrong

Geralt canonically gets murdered by peasants and gets rezzed only to be enslaved . Have you played this game series???

Their free spirit means they harbor actual radicals, intellectuals, and outcasts from the corporate world. Also war vets from the wars, though that aligns them with the :usa: gang because its also made up of a bunch of corporate war vets that got hosed over

I'm gonna do Nomad -> full Nerd mode max out Tech, then Int, and then save every bit of scrap to create custom legendary weapons/armor/cyberware/brain chips

I was thinking I needed to save more points for Cool -> Stealth if I want to be sneaky, but actually none of the perks actually help you *be* stealthy (except the movement rate one at lvl1) , they're all stealth attacks, which I should have more or less covered with quickhacks?

Some thoughts on playing as hacker/cyberwizard:

- You can make breaching, quickhacking, stealth takedowns your entire offense just fine. This is probably also the easiest way to do a "no-kill" playthrough
- I kinda want to restart and just rush all my attribute points into INT because this is will kinda wreck the difficulty curve, and I will explain why.
- If you're playing a hacker you can fight people 100% indirectly/stealth so now you've freed up your eddies from caring what kinda armor, weapon, and most cyberware you have
- What does that leave your $ for? a new cyberdeck of course! and you will need one! I saved up 15k during the prologue and bought a rare Biotech cyberdeck from the buff asian ripperdoc in the bazaar. Every deck comes with a unique set of passive bonuses, but the main numbers you want upgraded is "number of quickhack slots" (number of spells you can equip) and "buffer size" . longer buffer size means you can chain more and more complex "daemons" during the breaching minigame.
- Most cases this will mean when you're hacking an access point for $$ , you can ideally chain together the inputs for "Datamine program v1, v2 AND v3" leading to much higher payouts of $$ , AND some don't know this: this also nets you "quickhack crafting parts" and the better daemons/combo daemons net you both higher quality parts and a larger quantity of them. So thats right, once you get your daemon combo game down you can rip legendary quickhack crafting parts out of ANY access point.
-Most perk descriptions in the game aren't very clear, but the perks for "uncommon, rare, etc." quickhack schematics not only let you USE schematics of that tier it also just GIVES them all to you (or at least a good sampling of them?) so thats kinda :catstare: since I have found fuckall for other equipment schematics, and here they are just kinda laid out for you. This is why I want to try getting 20 INT early , because them I can basically start crafting and using legendary quickhacks (spells) early since they are not gated the same way other equipment is (SC, $)

Combat tips:
- don't get into combat. put 1 perk into stealth for the slightly faster stealth movement. Now craft and use "whistle" quickhack to pull guards to your location and stealth takedown them. Rinse and repeat
- don't shut cameras off, put them in friendly mode and use to target enemies so you never have to come out from behind cover
- don't rely on low cover, they will still clip your head, hide behind a wall
- don't try to fight people with quickhacks until you have the perk that lets you regen RAM (mana) during battle
- I got a good (rare/uncommon) attack quickhack early *I think* it was from decrypting Meredith Stout's credit chip. Note this lock you out from further interaction from her.
-> this attack does "more damage the more damage has already lost" , so this is a good finisher move and I find it takes most mobs out at half health. You can get this early and once you do, grab the perk that instantly regens 1 RAM each enemy death. You're now well on your way to snowballing hack attacks into each other
- flashbangs are nice to just stall enemies from rushing you while you regen RAM / reposition
- I like to weapon malfunction the last baddie and turn him into a punching bag for whatever combat skill im grinding for extra perks
- enjoy instagibbing mech suits and drones with "short circuit"

there's a good character planner here: https://nukesdragons.com/cyberpunk-2077/character

I've decided my first run is gonna be heavy on blunt melee (athletics/brawler) and tech crafting/engineering, with some stealth/cold blood to help out the melee efforts. Minimal INT to get by doing a little hacking. Still level 1 so I've only wasted 1 extra attribute point in reflex.

Once I get a 3xxx series video card I'll revisit guns.

What builds are you guys trying?

I'm gonna do every point into INT until 20 , then whatever

because INT can do basically everything: craft all your quickhacks, make $$$, all your combat, hack environmental objects. Only thing you really miss is opening locked doors (body, tech)

Mr. Pool
Jul 10, 2001

pmchem posted:

aw man if body/tech are redundant for exploration then I'm re-evaluating my plan.

maybe I should make my secondary tree INT instead of TECH?
unlockable doors are body OR tech attr checks. If you want to open every door you'll need both. From what I've gathered Tech doors are rarer but have higher quality loot, but body doors are more common

Stealth issues:

- They REALLY need to fix that bug where you're sometimes knocked out of crouch mode by tiny debris on the ground. Stealth is halfway useless if I can get kicked out of it just randomly

- Are there some quickhacks that will take out an unaware enemy 100% of the time? All these quickhacks that do damage seems pretty useless for stealth when I don't know if it will kill/knock them out silently, or just take half their health bar then put the whole place in alert mode

- Can you target enemies/items with quickhacks through walls somehow? I guess the devs might have kept it line-of-sight to not make it god mode, but certain weapons can work through walls, so...

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I think bugs when climbing on things that are clearly not supposed to be climbed on is pretty low on their list of things to fix

for the early game you need to focus on lure/distraction/blind spells and then do a grapple->takedown . Later once you get the "1.5x -> 2.0x quickhack damage to unaware enemies perk" you can start frying them in 1 or 2 hits (subsequent attacks don't necessarily blow your cover, unlike gunfire!) also there are quickhacks for setting off their grenades, and the suicide daemons. So either need to perk more into it and/or find the right quickhacks

If you're not in a "hostile area" then hitting enemies with a car A) doesn't alert them so you can make sure to hit them and kill at your lesiure, which means B) it gives stealth xp since you're killing them when they're unalert
