I'm slowing them down and making them pay, so the heavy losses they are taking will hopefully make the counter attack much more viable.

Not even bothering with the Kokoda Trail this time, are they? (Also, do you have any fighters to protect the Wildebeests/etc. coming out of Rangoon? Looks like they've pulled up fighters for CAP over Moulmein and I don't see the Beests - blessed as they are - doing well against an actual air opposition long-term.)

You have a mothership that's a huge factory ship, and it had a small fleet of smaller whale boats named "mothership #X". They'd all sail to the arctic or antarctic together, then the parasite whalers would go out, harpoon whales and tow them back to the mothership for processing. The whale boats were well suited for conversion to small patrol boats since they already had good seaworthiness, being built for operating on the open ocean in arctic climates, and had a ready made gun-mount with a good field of fire on the bow, just had to replace the harpoon cannon with a small naval gun and bolt on a couple MGs and a depth charge rack. A lot of other small fishing craft were also requisitioned, commonly referred to as "armed trawlers". In this case it's a bit wierd as the main Naruto Maru is a Yusen N class large cargo ship, and not a whaler. It was historically sunk by the USS Whale though.
