Heavy losses, but I’ve had worse. But let’s see how we go from there!

Wasn't the Shaw in a drydock (that was flooded) during the attack? Funny that it took at torpedo.

Grey, watching the video... Is the decision to leave your subs' "max react" at zero deliberate? If so, what's the reasoning?

Cruisers are quite valuable in game, way more than their points totals suggest.

Agreed. Cruisers pretty much carry the day for the first year of the war, really.

My second allied playthrough was an autowin early 43...

Kinda there with you on my second allied play through. Japanese merchant shipping has been decimated. Even without the quintessential "cruiser force smashes a couple convoys," they've all but been wiped out by July 1942. My two biggest caveats are reliable US torpedoes and low naval bombing, with the former being the absolute game changer. Even with the relatively small number of US fleetboats available at start, stationing them around the major waterway bottlenecks in the Japanese home islands has proven to be a bloodbath. For the first couple months of the war, I'm estimating that they were losing ~6-8 AKs or AKLs per day. It was insane.

So in my game, by July 1942, Japan seems to have run out of steam after capturing Java. Their SoWesPac offensive was an unmitigated disaster with just a dribble of ships making appearances, and almost no air activity whatsoever. They've lost two CVs to my submarines, held Rangoon easily, and I recaptured Rabaul in June after a paltry two days of fighting. Their bases have all been absolutely starved of supplies.

I've hopped into the Japan player's side from time to time, just to see the devastation, and it's pretty intense. I don't foresee this war lasting too much longer, methinks.

Edit: Oh, and due to the AI's penchant for sending carriers out on patrols with two destroyers for escort, I've had a light cruiser group built around the HMS Ceres smoke not one, but two Japanese fleet carriers.
